soo, last friday I start up my car and it starts this really nasty clicking sound...pretty loud. Turn it off. Check out under the hood, start it up again, same thing! As I'm poking around and the car is warming up it slowly started to go away.
So it does this now for about 1 minute every cold start. Not sure what it is, but it changes with RPM. Rad fan clutch maybe?
got the wiring terminals, so i can rebuild the ignition harness. forgot to connect the wideband to the maft pro, and i should install my electric fuel pressure gauge...then just have to put 2 more wheels on it and i can get it out of the garage. and ryan has to fix the fuel filter
some other minor things like taillight module and horn, interior bits, etc, but its pretty much driveable now.
also, i dropped the spare head off at JB yesterday for a resurface and to install the new valve springs and seals. Once I get it back I get to helicoil the exhaust studs, and get to learn how to reshim the cams! should be interesting.
and the car will need a major detail, anyone have recommendations where to take it?

everyone just needs to bug ryan to try and get his car done in time.

If you need the tool(s) for doing the shims I have them all. As well as shims (as I said before) Just call me if you need them. 2508576555
Its easiest to do the shims with the cams in (to avoid removing the cams over and over), so I've got the tool you need to push the springs down with the cam in allowing you to remove the shim.. I believe it's still in my garage. Once you compress the spring you juts pop the shim out with a small flat head. You'll also want a magnetic pickup tool.
head $free
BBC valve springs $75
new valve seals $35
Helicoils $25
Ryans old cams $100
Machine work $237 (had to chamfer the head slightly to get the new springs in)
$472
not bad, the machinist said the head was in really good shape. only thing is I noticed scoring on the cams, on the journals where they are clamped by the cam caps. how much scoring is too much? the caps and the head are fine, it's the cams I'm not sure of.

two of the journals, they are all similar to this. i know they can be fixed, but it might make the oil clearance too big. For #1 its 0.0014-0.0028, #2-7 is 0.0010-0.0037, max is 0.0051". i also don't want to ruin the journals on this head.
ill talk to the machine shop about polishing them, another option is to polish them then have them moly or teflon coated. i want to run them, and i dont want to pay $450 or whatever it is for BC cams... yet.
