Sorry to interupt here but does anyone know where to buy an ECU for a '92 Supra Turbo, 5 speed. This is for my buddy's car. His car would suddenly stall out of no where. We pulled the engine code, and we got code 14, and code 51. I have access to the Michell on Demand, so after dicking around with it, we came to the conclusion that it needs an new ECU. And the dealer wants 1000 for a new one

Thanks in advance :)

you could post a WTB on www.supraforums.com, or check all the local auto wreckers, a 89-92 ECU should work, you might need a 90+.

also if your buddys car is a 5spd, make sure to get one from a car that also is 5spd, if your buddys car is a auto it doesnt matter, both ECU's will work.

g'luck

Enraged 10-29-2002 07:39 PM

do you know what code 14 and 51 are? replacing the ECU won't get rid of the codes if its something else, it will just be a waste of money. 51 is knock sensor?

check this, online TSRM for those too lazy to stand up and go pick up our own :) http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/

Enraged 10-29-2002 07:45 PM

code 14: http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/librar...fi/FI_026.html
could be ignition coil, or ecu.

code 51: http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/librar...fi/FI_028.html could be TPS or A/C related, or dead ECU

hmm, maybe ECU is a good idea. find one locally (mid island imports possibly) and plug it in to see if the codes go away. most junkyards wont charge you just to test it out.

Boosted1 10-29-2002 07:50 PM

Well we followed the instructions and check for voltages going to the ECU. There was voltage, although every low, about .9 - 1 volt. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that low. Usually ECU's use a 5 volt referrence right? Any way, we also called Coast Import autowrecker, and they have one for an 88 Turbo, 5 speed, for $500. Do you guys know if the '92 and '88 use the same ECU?

Paradox 10-29-2002 08:21 PM

different ECUs

NashMan 10-30-2002 04:14 PM

well i know supra's are bad for code 51 is mostly ac switch i get that crapp all the time it no biging at all and if it is nock sensore the computer will just drop your timing low . it safty over ride

if you car has the same speed as it all wasy had then it is most likly a/c switch

as for 14 hummm

as for coils they don't go much but get your favpoit muty meater and test em but make sure the coil packs are grounded good or you will get bad voltage

and does the engine light come on at all when you just turn the key if it don't then it is bad ecu conntion and to fix this prob you can clean your fuse box whith contack cleaner

and if that does not fix then give the box wiggle and see if you can get that light t come on and if it still doe snot then 2 things are left wireing or ecu

if you give em more info i can help more

any way now that that is over i don't have my car any more the bad men took it away

ecu don't really mess up on supra very on comon

Paradox 10-30-2002 05:40 PM

how long do these bad men have your car for?

Enraged 10-30-2002 06:24 PM

did someone tow it? did you get your license takin away for dangerous driving??? lol

gen3supra 10-30-2002 07:37 PM

gas mileage???

Hi guys, I just stumbled upon this thread and it looks very valuable. I've had my 89T Supra for about a year. SO far I've had nothing but problems. I've replaced the brakes (rotors too), tires (rubber on MK4 rims), ENGINE(canada engines), O2 sensor(NGK), struts(koni yellows) and springs, radiator and a ton of other things that I can't remember right now. My question is, after all these repairs, I still get shit gas mileage and I don't think that my car pulls as hard as one with basically a brand new engine should. I get approximately 300 K to the tank of 94 octane gas right now. I thought that replacing the 02 sensor would help, but so far no luck. Also, when my car is cold I have to turn it over a few times to get it to start, and then it idles at 500 roughly for five minutes. Do I have a bad AFM or fuel pump? I really want to test my AFM, but have heard that checking the resistance is not a good enough way to tell if it is working properly. How can I test it? If anyone has any sugestions I would really appreciate them. I feel like I have a car that is close but needs a bit of work. Thanks

Jesse

Paradox 10-30-2002 08:53 PM

Jesse, sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. check SOGI, www.supras.com > SOGi for tips to find vacuum leaks, or search www.supraforums.com for the same

300k shouldnt be right, if you're using the stock fuel system. hell even i can beat that mileage.

first check vacuum leaks, then check your fuel filter, check all fuel lines, maybe check fuel pump, but first make sure your fuel pressure regular is working properly. im not sure how to do so, but check the TSRM @ http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/index.html

checking your AFM is going to be harder, but make sure the core is still solid and nothings broken inside, or covered in oil, etc.

if you can narrow down the problem a bit more, we can help you more.

g'luck!

NashMan 10-30-2002 10:27 PM
