I've got some questions for all of you hardcore Supra guys:

1) How much power can the 7MGTE transmission hold?
2) Is the MkIV (86.5-90???) rear end a solid axle?
3) If not, which supras had solid axles?
4) How strong are the diffs? Did any come with LSDs?

that's all for now. thanks guys :)

1) auto tranny can hold 300-350RWHP, 5spd can supposidely hold up to 600RHP with a good clutch

2) 86.5-92 is MK3 and its independant rear suspension, as far as i know all supras have iRS

3) ---

4) shouldnt have any probs with the LSD, i've yet to hear of anyone having probs with it, even while making over 400RWHP

;)

Thanks Paradox :) I don't think that doing a solid axle to IRS would be easy :( Bah! nevermind, I'm just thinking aloud

Paradox 11-12-2002 06:50 PM

ive been brainstorming ideas to create some sort of lockup for the IRS so it can be a solid rear axle when you want it to be, and back to independant when you want to attack the twisties... so far the closest thing ive heard of is something Toby found, which is a GM unit i think? that basically does this, but its not limited slip :(

MidnightMechanic 11-12-2002 06:55 PM

I'm just trying to think of a strong toyota diff that is a solid axle. Maybe a toyota truck? naw, not in a "sports" car. Oh well, I'll come up with something.

Enraged 11-12-2002 07:01 PM

there is airlocker diffs for chevs, uses air pressure to lock the diff, so it normally an open diff.

and the MKIII diff was just shown its limits by a guy in australia. 800 rwhp, it ate itself at the track.

MidnightMechanic 11-12-2002 07:03 PM

I think that I'd rather have a Phantom Grip. Sometimes too much technology is a bad thing.

NashMan 11-12-2002 09:11 PM

the best rear diff toyota make that is sloid axel is the tundera rear diff or the old school lancuser diff

as for have they bean all indpened no the mrk 1 was soild

as for converting ti it not as hard as you think it whould be

have to run coil over and just find nice alex to pop in and new drive sahft but other then that same old same old same old

as for locking you irs bad idea you break the crap out of your A arm's it soild or nothig

in the end you do alot of damge

the only thing you can do it make your shocks have higher damping and stiff spring

NashMan 11-15-2002 04:07 PM

no car for me! im waiting on springs for the valve body, bah.

more waiting..... tranny better be something amazing when i get it back

just thought id update since my car was supposed to be ready today. but thanks to UPS and customs things are taking awhile

goddamnit!

NashMan 11-19-2002 09:23 PM

lmso hehehe poor muray will he ever get to drive his car more then mouth then have to got to the shop

Enraged 11-19-2002 09:48 PM

my computer ate it today.... power supply crapped out. oh wel, $55 for a new 300W one, so im pickin it up tomorrow.

also started my bodywork class today. nothin too interesting, but im tryin to figure out a project i can bring it. im thinkin i might make the top portion of my sub box, all contoured (more than murrays) and sand sand sand then paint it the same color as the body... or maybe fiberglass some interior panels (doors?) and paint part of them....

and thats my update for the past week.

oh ya, since xmas si comin up, i cant get springs until after xmas, so i might take my stock coils to Brislands custom shop, they would only charge $20 to cut them. they would be fine for a month or 2 with the Konis set on the firmest setting.... and get rid of teh 4x4 look....

NashMan 11-19-2002 11:51 PM

na don't bother just waste of money if your going to get spring heck cut em in your body work class
