.... and the original head gasket design was wrong, they updated it in 91 or 92 i think, and with proper torque it wont blow under normal conditon (not boostiing 25 psi)

those are the real problems. improper torque from the factory, and bad gasket design.

the reasons it blows are numerous, anything from overheating to too much boost, detonation, etc.

ok here it goes the mian reson why they eat head gasket so much is toyota fucked up and rushed the 7m out they knew about the problem they have made and the prob is one being the head is made out of aulim so they are to diffent metal that expand diffetn and caues them to go lose and such

now toyota's big mistake was the bolt paturn if they moved em in close they whould have never had this probelem

so now what pople are tring to do is clamp it down as much as possible to stope the strecghin of the blots so people use arp caues they don't stregch as much

that is the mian reson why mrk 3's blow head gaskets that why they droped the 7m and made the 1gz and gave the us the crappy motor and once they finshed that motor the supra need a change caues all the other where faster like rx7 300 z ect

so then came hte 2jze

but the main reson is the head and block combo and how they chose to bolt it down when people tighten there head don they try t streach the hell out of the bolt and so it will not strech as much

but nothing and stop and heat strich plus that why we get warped heads and such

do you dare and try to say i am wroung but there is the main reson toyota fucked up

Test drove an 88T on friday, I'm glad to say that there was a MAJOR difference between it and the 86.5NA. Too bad the owner came with me so I didn't really get to open it up on the highway.

I took it up to 110 before the owner started to freak out at me. He panicked another time because I went when another driver waved me on; I couldn't see the traffic in the other lane.

Enraged: I know what you're talkin about. The golf course I work at had a summer party last year for our 10th anniversary. Free golf, free food and free booze!! ... and what made it worse? FREE TAXIS! I think they intended for us to use the taxis to get home, but we took them down to One first.

The real reason the head gasket blows is not what you said Nashman that is a myth because changing the bolt patern would have caused other problems

The reason they blow is because the bolts Toyota used were poor quality as well as the torque rating was wrong they were torque to 58ft/lbs and then 90 degrees the reason they did this was they were looking for stretch in the bolts what they didn't anticipate was the amount the bolts would stretch this coupled with the bad gasket, heat expansion, and vibration caused the bolts to back out and cause the gasket to oscilate on the block surface and causes the gasket to tear or when a cylinder is under high pressure the gasket blows wide open

So to fix this Toyota "re-designed" the gasket and "upped the torque setting" to 72 ft/lbs and this was done not looking for stretch in the bolts while they actually made better bolts this makes the "new" stock gasket good up to 17psi

changing the bolt patterns would have caused the head to crack because of the torqueing of the block it actually flexes under WOT because it is a straight six

don't believe me ask Reg Reimer!

when people blow the head gasket with a MHG and ARP bolts, they blow it becuase of poor tuning, running too lean, overheating, etc.

there was a few guys that have run 25 psi+ on the STOCK head gasket and bolts, just torqued down. i think it was dean (not dean marcum) i think his username is t61supradean on supraforums.

sure. bring some technical facts.

if the bolt pattern is so bad, why is there people running 400+ rwhp and 25+ psi on the stock head gasket? they are lucky?

Ah Enraged buddy finally another learned person rings the bullshit detector

I have done alot of research it is not the bolt patern the actual bolts were made out of low grade metal the bolts on the 2JZ are different than on the 7M they are not interchangable and are not the same spec they have a higher stretch threshold in otherwards they will stretch more before they become plastic and snap

on another subject, what are peoples plans for their cars this summer?

im probably going to build my own intake it pretty soon, and weld it in the class im taking, and im also considering making my own targa bars as well. the ones Dean Marcum is selling are just thick wall stainless steel tube, crushed at both ends.... maybe make them out of some thick aluminum stock (.5" x 1" maybe?) and polish it all up nice.

depending on cash, im going to get a good electronic boost controller, and hopefully springs and shocks. a freind of mine might be gettin his car painted for $600, so if that turns out nice (he'll be the guinea pig hehe) i might get it painted in the summer.
