any other suggestions? right now i have a 60d but i plan to eventually move to FF
the 17-40 is awesome, i just recently got one to use on my 5d, if ur using it on a aps-c camera it'll be a good walk arnd lens because of the crop factor, later on when u upgrade to FF, ull have a uwa lens to use.

anyone try price matching at futureshop with broadway camera? was it a smooth transaction? will I need to bring in a flyer? because I don't think broadway camera has one and I don't want to drive around town to hunt one down..

I want to purchase the d3100 at futureshop..they have it at broadway camera for 550. So will futureshop price match this and give me a 10% off that price?

Thanks

edit: ops posted in the wrong thread..this was suppose to go in the need advice on a new camera thread.

I'm sure you have to bring in some sort of paper, or add that shows the price. And they have to have it in stock too i believe. And i think it's 10% off the difference in the price, not the whole price of the camera itself. So if FS has is it for $600, and BC has it for $550, 10% of $50 = $5. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I knew you'd buy one sooner or later! Good luck with it when you get it! Hardest lens you will ever use, but very rewarding once you get it down! For the best results, stop it down to F8 - F14. Still pretty thin DOF. You seem good at stacking which will help.

With the 17-40F4L, it's good on a crop, but awesome on FF. A bit soft wide open, but sharp from F5.6 - F9 or so. The edges aren't great either, but that's a Canon UWA for you. A bit slow at F4 for a walk around, but that's what you get at F4 obviously. Tripod, and your good to go or lower-light and night shooting!

Correct. 10% of the difference. FS are hardasses when it comes to price matching. They don't really like to do it and will make up all sorts of excuses to avoid it. You need to show them someway either printout or website.

Have you checked if memory express has the camera? They beat by 25% of the difference and are completely hassle free when it comes to price beating.

+1 for Mem Express. All they do is check the price online - and if it's available to purchase online, they don't even call the store to see if it's available locally.

*edit, it looks like it's even cheaper at Mem Express. check it out...

does not compute. they either have a policy that says they do it or not. it's not up to the new canadian working there to decide.

know that, and put your foot down.

i think i would go with the 17-50. it has fixed 2.8 too. it shouldnt be too heavy, i had a 17-70 a while back and it was pretty light
I ended up with the 17-50. Mounted on the D90, it was felt pretty good and it was handy to have the 2.8 aperture in low-light situations. I'll post some pics later on the other thread.

Lowest Price Guarantee

Basically - with their wording, they can say that the competitors lowest price guarantee won't apply to quite a lot of sales. Most places have items on sale for a "limited time offer", so they can basically reject any item that's lower price elsewhere.

Any item that's available online, the price of "next day delivery" must be factored in.

Any local stores - I've seen them actually call the local store to see if the item is in stock. If it's out of stock, or needs to be ordered in (even if it's the next day) you're SOL. If the store you're trying to PM is closed, you're SOL.

Mem Express has a much better PM policy - all they need to see is that the item is in stock online, they don't even care about delivery, etc - and they will PM it + 25% off the difference. It used to be 5% off the final price (which for big ticket items like TVs and Camera, it could mean a big amount), but nowadays, I'm finding they usually have the lowest price anyway.

Anyone use ais lenses with their d90 or a Nikon camera? They don't meter right? So I pretty much have to guess the exposures? Is it worth it to buy a ais lens?
Funny thing is that when ilvtofu used a Nikon to canon converter for his 7d the lens actually metere but not on my d90 -__- do ais lenses meter on d7000's?

The current higher end bodies from Nikon will meter with Ai-S lenses - D7000, D300s, D700, D3s & D3x. AI-S lenses use a small tab that is attached to the aperture ring that in turn moves a tab attached to a spring loaded ring just outside the lens mount on the camera body that tells the camera what f-stop is being selected. Now, if that little tab has been broken off either lens or body, AE will not work. The D90 does not have the capability to AE with AI-S lenses, unfortunately. Canon cameras use the stop down method of measuring exposure with manual lenses.

@Senna thanks for the info! I found myself a pretty mint condition ais macro lens. Im still contemplating if I should get it. It's a one time deal but I'm going to upgrade to a d7000 in a month. Would you buy the lens if you were in my shoes?

If it's a clean example of the 55mm f2.8 micro, then jump on it. I have that lens, and for a lens that's almost as old as I am, it's amazingly sharp - I use it on my 5DmkII with an adapter. Be careful of sticking aperture blades though, as it's a known issue and I had to get my lens re-lubricated. Always store it vertically.

I've finally saved up enough to buy the Nikon 24-70. My main purpose is to use it for general everyday use and with it being versatile, as I only have been using prime lens. I can carry this around on trips and events without having to swap back and forth my primes.

Does anyone think this decision is not good? Buying the 24-70 as a walk-around lens?

Hey guys,

I am contemplating between a few lenses. I wanna pick up the 70-200 IS II new...but would it be a better idea to just pick one up used? Or should I just pick up the version one?

I often do portraits so I've also thought about the 50 1.4 and 135 2.0. I have a crop sensor camera.

Cheers,

Dang.

Recommendations on a Nikon DX format telephoto?

Nikon 55-200 for $150 or Nikon 55-300 for $250?
