You won't regret it.. maybe slightly when you really need to get up close and there's no way you can physically do it LOL.

Yep. I was debating between the two as well but the Tokina has a lower aperture which made the decision easier

Just a thought- the Canon's flare resistance is far and away superior to the Tokina. I was looking and debating both, and went with the Canon since I didn't need the 2.8.
If you don't need the speed, I'd go with the extra range and flare resistance that Canon offers. IQ on both lenses are excellent, so you won't go wrong with either.

they actually both seem to be around the same price..and upon resale (further down the road) i think the tokina may be the better option ? :s
and this lens would work with my XSi right ? i hear stuff about crop/full frame lens for crop/full frame cameras but i still don't understand the whole routine

Yeah Tokina 11-16 is a crop lens
Full frame = 35mm sensor
Crop = Nikon is 1.6x smaller and Canon is 1.5x
So if you put a 50mm lens on a crop body, it'll appear "zoomed in"
Don't know what lens was used in that shot but you can see that the crop only captured the center most of the lens because of it's smaller sensor and the full frame used the entire thing

^^^ Canon is 1.6x & Nikon is 1.5x.
For those looking at the Tokina 11-16, there is a version II of this lens coming soon.

ok another dilemma..now you k now i wanna upgrade into a wide angle lens for my cam as i want to shoot more that style..but at the same time i feel like i REALLY wanna get rid of this XSi and get something else (possibly something i can shoot video with as well)...what do u guys think i shud do ? =/
1. stay with my xsi + 50mm 1.8 + 35-105mm and just get my lens i want (either tokina 11-16 or the canon 10-22)
or
2. use $ from the wide angle lens and upgrade camera? while either selling my xsi with all the stuff to fund for new camera or wait til AFTEr i get my new camera body , and THEN sell my current set-up if i need too

What part of the camera do you find lacking? If you're hard pressed to find substantial issues, I say save money and just get the lens you want. The difference between the 18mm you get in a kit lens and 10-11 in the other two you're looking at is night and day.
If you really do have issues with the XSi (i.e. something that's actually hindering your shoots), then you should replace it.

no nothing substantial is lacking, just maybe the fact that i cant shoot video. Apart from that i still have long ways to go to take full advantage of the xsi, even if there isnt a whole lot. i guess ill just stick to my lens buying and worry bout upgrading body later on

Re: Tokina 11-66 version II.
Just talked to Tokina people this morning. The Nikon version is slated to be released in the next month or so. The Canon version will be released early next year(!).

Re: Tokina 11-66 version II.
I see it available on Amazon.com already. Is it actually available in the States already? or just pre-order?
The 105mm is out of my price range right now
I'm mainly looking for a new lens for event portraits. The 60mm sound quite tempting. Using DX, this would mean 90mm....which is quite close to 85mm f/1.8G's range.
But the ability to choose occasion macro on the 40 & 60 is another consideration. |

How is the Canon 55-250 IS lens? I only have the stock 18-55 and the 50mm 1.8 so this would be a good addition right?
Theres a thread on RFD saying people were able to price match with amazon at Memory Express and get it for ~$190 after tax.
Good deal?

can't think of a better deal for a budget zoom w/ IS for canon. for a typical user, it's the least used lens tho.

What if i spend the extra cash and get something like a 18-135 IS?
Saw reviews online saying the quality isnt as good as the 55-250 and isnt as sharp either. But the range would be much more usable in everyday life.

If you guys were going to go to NYC for the first time which lens would you bring?
I have a 70-200mm, and the rest are primes. Not sure if I should get a wide angle or a 17-50mm f/2.8 to make things a bit easier instead of having to switch all the time.
