I HAVE to give that a try some time. It sounds like a hoot to fiddle with.

Senna4ever 09-01-2007 01:13 PM

Sure, if you have an alpha mount body, you can borrow it.

Awesome. Big lenses rule! :D

By the way, would something like that work on my Canon XTi?

Well like you know, Im working on getting a new camera.
what cameras have alpha mounts? i think pentax uses "bracket mounts" or something right? nikon? dunno.
Im leaning towards a nikon or pentax right now

edit: is it sony that uses "alpha mounts"?

Sigma does make that lens in canon mount, but you won't get IS, which is pretty much mandatory at 500mm because the max aperture is f6.3. You'll need a lot of light.

All current cameras except for some Voightlanders use what is called a bayonet mount. All of the curent SLR makera use their own version of the bayonet mount. Nikon uses the F mount, canon the EF mount, Pentax the K mount, Leica uses either the M mount or R mount & Minolta/Sony uses the A mount, otherwise known as the Alpha mount.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The lens seems quite affordable, but like you said, with no IS, dragging a tripod everywhere I go would be a bit of a pain...

Senna4ever 09-02-2007 11:34 PM

Nice! I've always wanted to take gig photos like that.

Kyle has the Sigma 50-500mm...I think he did quite well with it when we went to the airshow. There was very good light tthat day though.

Yeah, but you're going to have to pay $6500 for the 500mm L IS lens, no?

I'll keep ya posted. Probably be something sooner, but if not, next definite shoot is a Halloween show at Pub340 with Guy Jones (Alice Cooper tribute) and Social Disease. SD did a Halloween show there last year that was fantastic (got some pics from that around here somewhere).

Senna4ever 09-03-2007 05:45 PM
