GFunk: you are unbelievable with a camera! Keep shooting, because I want to see you published somewhere! You have a natural way of capturing things, which as a photographer means you're either extremely lucky, or you just have 'that' much skill!

The only thing I would think about changing is with the apple shot, I would ditch the sticker. I think the idea was to make it pop out, but the focus is what's popping those apples for me, not the sticker. It gets in the way. Apart from that, I want to eat all the apples, so you've done your job of making them look pleasing!

I would absolutely LOVE a high-res version of any of those shots for some new wallpaper! Gimme gimme pleeeease! e3333@hotmail.com

ckrieg & others: I don't think I've ever been drawn to a flower photo so much! The curled pedals are wonderful, and the bokeh halo helps it, when it SHOULD hurt it! I am going to go with bokeh as reasoning, as the focal distance and aperture would indicate his DOF wouldn't be too wide, which to me says that focus ends interestingly enough at the end of the flower, causing the defined edge of the pedals to go 'fuzzy'. The lighting is causing the lit part of the halo, you can tell this because the color at the edge of the north part of the flower is brighter than that of the southern side.

But hey... it's only a flower!
thanks! this is the first anyone's said anything near what you've said haha, i'm tres tres flattered

Created this piece after I took a power nap in the midst of reading, after 4 months of holidays, i'm struggling to get back into gear

GFUNK:
#1 Photo. LOL. Studying after 1 beer, 2 beer, 3 beer, and 4 hahaha. The concept bored me until I realized that lol.
#3 photo. I think if the body was in focus too, it would make for a better photo. As it is, it almost looks a little awkward.

Nice photos !

GFunk, I actually like how here body is not totally in focus, but maybe if it was a bit less shallow it wouldn't seem as if her head was floating.

^^^Where did you take those star ones? I don't think you need a CPL or ND. Just set it on BULB + low ISO.

Yeah, don't think CPL would really make a difference with the star shots, other than to act as an ND. I'd love to know where that is, too - the bottom one is incredible.

The CPL would just prolong the shutter drag so I can keep it open longer. I need to cut out more light if I want to do an hour or two

Or just dial down the ISO and/or aperture. Unless you have a *really good* CPL, you may find all it adds to the picture is softness.

I could get about 30 minutes tops with ISO set to 50 and F12 *any higher and it just gets softer*

WTF?? I've shot WAY longer than that with way lighter settings... example:

DateTime - 2005:07:23 01:38:04
ExposureTime - 508 seconds
FNumber - 5.00
ISOSpeedRatings - 100
FocalLength - 18 mm

Okay, that's not longer, that's only about 8-1/2 minutes, but unless it's really smoggy or something, the sky won't get much brighter than that, and the stars won't bloom because they're always moving across the frame.

ND i'm pretty sure is a neutral density filter (a filter that darkens everything a little, similar to a GND - Graduated Neutral Density Filter, except this is all the way through).

Senna, I really like that shot!!

ND = neutral density, reduces all colors by a specified amount.

GND = graduated neutral density, darker on one side, lighter on the other, even transition from one to the other.

CPL = circular polarizer. Like a regular polarizer except the lightwaves are given an extra 'twist' to allow proper operation of auto-exposure and auto-focus.

This is approx. 3.2 hours, f/8 at ISO200. Unfortunately my 300D has a lot of noise at that exposure time, although part of that may be from the battery running down while I left it out overnight...

Make - Canon
Model - Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
DateTime - 2007:08:11 04:36:23
ExposureTime - 11522 seconds
FNumber - 8.00
ISOSpeedRatings - 200
ExposureBiasValue - 0.00
FocalLength - 18 mm
ExposureMode - Manual
White Balance - Auto
