Camping! Eww.. Nice pics though! Did you go again somewhere, or are these from your trip down to Oregon last month?

Jason,
just a simple critique on your studio stuff. There is too much going on in her eyes. You should try to minimize the amount of catchlights in her eyes down to 1. it will improve the look.
In the 3rd photograph, your softboxes are a little hot at the bottom of her outfit making my eyes look away from the face. In addition, your lighting ratios may be a little low. There isn't a lot of shadow depth to really chisel out the face. A mentor once told me that to have great lighting practice on a cube. The 3 sides visible to the camera should all have different shades. If you apply this concept to your portraits, they should improve dramatically.
Otherwise, keep at it!!!

Hmmm....how do I get one catchlight if I use 2 softboxes?
Yes, I need to pay more attention to the ratios. The BG lights were set too low. I'll try the cube thing on Monday...how many lights should I use?
Thanks for the critique!

If you place the softbox out of her eye's sight you should be able to minimize if not remove one box out of the equation. This may mean that you'll have to feather the light more and may even need a gobo or scrim to prevent light spilling into your camera lens. It may also mean that you will have to up the power of the softbox that is further away.
In practicing lighting, use one to start. Once you get the hang of lighting it with 3 distinctly different tones on each panel, then add a second light and maintain the differences.
This is not a hard and fast rule, but it does give the starting ground to understand and even (as improvement comes) break the rules. But in general, photographs that have a 3:1 ratio typically attract more people to it. This is to say that there is a 2 stop difference between highlight and shadow.
This rule is broken typically with beauty dish lighting or ring light lighting, but then the effect is also different in that it provides a softer and more often high key lighting effect.
Lots of different ways to light and everyone will have their taste, but my suggestion is to practice the bare bone basics and move up from there.

No problems.
Here's a good one for you to try at Focal Point (just cuz they should have the equipment available for you to do so without help).
Accomplish a high key white background shot with only one light. It's not easy, but it's a good challenge.

That last one with the flash is neat... the second one I like (cleavage shot!), but the first and third... nyet. Mostly the angle and the short lens that make her legs look freakin' huge and completely non-proportional to her body.

Was it your intentions to have that tilted wide angle effect that makes the legs bigger?

nothing about that photograph is appealing other than its sharpness.
Her legs look awkward, and her face is really scary. I like the birdcage idea, but the angle is strange.
I think your first batch came out quite amazing, but this batch is as if you've never had any experience prior. Did you take this batch before the other? Don't hate me!

What's that white dot on the top right side (about 2 inches down from the top)? There is also one between the 2 guys on the left. It bugs me. I'm picky that way. Nice photo either way tho
