A shot from the studio from yesterday. This is still a work in progress. It's been a while since I've last tied a noose.

The bottle was there to set-up why he died/commited suicide. It was better than the can of SPAM I originally used. Haha..

Mananetwork 11-03-2007 09:53 PM

Wow EG Nice!

Haha, man I am loving it! I made the mistake of shooting in JPEG though. I went looking last night for some info on shooting RAW... I'm looking forward to whatever I shoot next!

As for the duck... the colour, and lighting are awesome... the idea is a bit abstract, but something that's sitting weird with me is the way the frame looks in the window. It looks like you've cut out whatever was there originally, and you've just pasted a Photoshop gradient or something in its place. it's kind of weird! Thanks for the setup shot also, I... like everyone else really appreciate seeing how these things are setup!

Hey man! Thanks! There's nothing like a little ISO1600 to wake you up in the morning! I love the freedom this camera is giving me. I am hooked!

Now I just need to figure out what comes next... a 430EX and a nifty fifty, or a 17-40mm... any ideas?

Figures I couldn't fool you. Yes, I cut out the windows and added a gradient layer. I couldn't get the gels I was using to give me the look I wanted. Here's the original shot:

Haha, I hate to say it man, but I much prefer that shot! The shadow from the cross in the window frame adds an 'eery' kind of flavour to the mix! I also like the vignette! You know me though... I'm 'an elitest'... so don't listen too close. ;)

The hue from the vignette adds a colder tone to the image, and with a dead duck, I would expect thigns to be cold, and not warm, and full of colour! That's almost a contradicting idea.

I guess it all depends, if you're looking for the satire approach, then I guess the happy/warm tones work, but if you just want to take a picture of a dead duck driven to suicide by the drink, then why not have the cool tone in it? :)

Great shot nonetheless! :)

ColinK 11-04-2007 09:13 AM

isn't odoul's an alcohol free beer?

Soundy 11-04-2007 11:08 AM

Ducks are cheap drunks.

I wanted the orange light to seem as if it was streaming in from the outside, but the strobe lighting the ducky was casting a shadow on the cove behind. I'm doing a re-shoot tomorrow, so I'll increase the distance between ducky and the window.

ckrieg: May he commited suicide because he saw that it was non-alcohol beer! Haha... look closely, the bottle is half full. ;)

Get something wider like a 10-22. As for flash, look at the Sigma 500. It compares to the 540EX, but the only draw back from the Sigma is the cycle speed, build. The powers there though and half the price
