Senna, to get what you are looking for put a gobo off to the side of the key light flash and feather the light to the right side.

For the gradient, place the background light beside the window frame pointing towards the wall. Dim the light down 1 to 2 stops lower and add a scrim beside the light (between the light and the "window") to prevent cross light spillage.

You may need a reflector or a white card near the duck to put a little more light on the duck or the bottle. But it should get you what you want.

Did a little tweaking on one of my pics from the last Lions game of the season this past Saturday...

Found a chayote squash at Urban Fare today, so I thought I'd use it.

tallshorty, i think you can saturate those colors some more. Depends what you're going for I guess. I personally would've tried to get the most colors out of it :).

Senna, do you really need to shoot tethered to your camera? Nice shot.

Thanks, which shot are you referring to? I like shooting tethered so I can see the image on a bigger screen. Keeps the models from coming over to see the back of the camera everytime.

was shooting the box for this in class but decided to take some pics of the actual cassette

looks like it's rotating as i'm scrolling up and down

ColinK 11-08-2007 11:50 PM

Jordan, awesome shot! I love it! :)

Atlantis, nice shot, I maybe would have had a little less angel on them to see their faces better, as that's the most important thing. I do agree though, the shadow is really distracting

Atlantis 11-08-2007 11:54 PM

hehe thx...oh i was the 2nd photographer at this wedding, they were looking at the other photographer this shot :)

Might be better with the white balance tuned.

Nothing spectacular, just showing the bias towards Canon.

MikesJo 11-10-2007 08:09 PM

I see people using 24-70s from that distance :S. You went to that chinese vancouver thing I take it? $10 to shoot them?

Nice pic! Definitely different than what they got :P.

Just to quote it so that my reply to Mike's post can be more direct (don't have to flip between this page and the last).

My friend paid the $10 for me. I wonder if I can submit that shot :D

So much white everywhere....kinda made me sick ;)

Senna4ever 11-10-2007 10:57 PM

I wish I knew about this. :(

Levitron 11-10-2007 11:06 PM

Meh....like I mentioned before, nothing spectacular.

.....unless you like jostling between hoards of sweaty old men.

Senna4ever 11-10-2007 11:46 PM

^^^Some people will pay good money for that!

(not me)

Car Chick 11-11-2007 07:34 AM

Dot, it's the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2007 photo contest that they have on for every year. The entrance fee to the contest is $10 per person.

The picture that I have up there is as Aberdeen Centre. They chose the crappiest locations for shooting...bad lighting and horrible backgrounds.

bikerx 11-11-2007 09:53 AM

woot i was there :) some of the girls were pretty cute but one or two were .. bleh....(dad paid for me so w.e)

Nice, did you notice how they were so retarded in how they placed the girl UNDER the trees? The natural light available from the ceiling is gorgeous at Aberdeen, yet they chose to hide the girls underneath the trees. What retards.

On a side note, are you going to submit anything?

MikesJo 11-11-2007 09:09 PM

Stimulating discussion.
