Not too sure how I like it. Something seems "off". Maybe it's the green chair in the top left?

Ohhh, I like it!
I am not 100% sure, but i wonder what it would have looked like if it was on a little less of an angle.
Creative picture though, awesome addition to your portfolio

Hmmm...maybe if the plane of focus was just on the keys?

my guess is that it's the angle that seems wrong... the composition doesn't seem complete with that angle.

I think the plane of focus is wrong for the overall angle of the image. The focus should, IMHO encompass the space between the spacebar and the brand. A view camera or 35mm T/S lens will do the trick.

Our assignment this week was to pick a famous photo that was over 25 years old and emulate it, using the most authentic equipment and film. I picked a photo from Elliot Erwitt's dog series and shot with my Leica M6 and Kodak Tri-X B&W film. This is the original:
My emulation, hand developed and printed by me:

Heh that girl is wearing Uggs.
The background behind your dog seems really busy and is distracting, but otherwise it's a nice emulation/recreation with nice depth and contrast in B/w.

I love the dog! He looks like a gangster with his jacket and hair haha. Good job on the emulation, and as kwazy said, the background does seem a little busy.

Thanks, guys! Yeah, that background has been dodged to hell. The emulation was much more difficult to do than I expected. No one was out walking their yappy little ratdogs in the cold weather. When I did see one, and asked if I could take their picture, the dogs wouldn't stay still, so I had to stop down more than I wanted to get the DoF. That picture was frame 35 of my second roll of film. Almost all of the others are goners.

Its an awesome picture. However, I did notice the background right away.
I love seeing new stuff people come up with! (Even though it was an emulation lol)

interesting that you guys all mention the background.
it bothers me least in the image
what bothers me is that the boots are uber dark, and they need to be dodged compared to the rest of the image.
the background seems fine....

No, there's hardly any detail in the boots - they're black boots. Any more dodging would be obvious. Street photography is difficult to do technically perfectly. It's so spontaneous...you can't ask someone to pose this way and that. Anyways, I got an 'A'!

the background seems fine.... | The boots are black, so there's almost no detail just like Senna said. :-) Quote: Originally posted by mc25 lol.

A card or other opaque object is held between the enlarger lens and the photographic paper in such a way as to block light from the portion of the scene to be lightened. Since the technique is used with a negative-to-positive process, reducing the amount of light results in a lighter image.

Dodging is when while the paper is being exposed to the light from the enlarger, you are blocking some of the light in an area to keep it from being exposed. This results in that area receiving less light. It can be used to lighten parts of the image or if there is detail in the negative, that detail will show through instead of going black.
The icon for the 'dodge' tool in Photoshop is a stick/wire with a piece of paper taped to it actually. That's exactly what you use in the darkroom.

Don't keep it in the same place or else you'll have hard edges and it'll be very obvious. :-)

OK i found it. On CS3 its not a paper and stick/wire, its a stick with a black ball on the end.
Tnxs for the help though, time to play around with it |

Tnxs for the help though, time to play around with it | The icon is the same in all versions of Photoshop. That icon is a very simplified stick/wire with a piece of paper cut in to a circle taped to it. If you've never been in the wet darkroom, you wouldn't know what it is. Don't overdo it in PS...if there's no detail in the image, all you're going to get is a cloudy blob.
If you're ever in Vancouver, I can give you a little demo. It's actually quite fun. Time consuming, but fun...beats sitting in front of a computer working on CS3.
