I did a whole can's assignment shooting can's and we did every single possible way of focusing a 4x5 . i think we shot 22- 30 something negs -_-... if you think about it each neg costs about $1.03 or something. sighs!! for one Assignment. then the photo paper, mount tissue, foam core for mounting, and labeling each.. im glad we're done with that assignment !..

and yeah the stuff you see in martha stewart magazines and stuff is prob shot with a digital back 4x5 ... gotta love the quality but the cameras are wayy too heavy to carry around especially when the case weighs just as much, then you have all the stuff you need to take on location ie:loop, short shank cable release, light meter, calculator, ruler, lens hood, rocket blower, neg carriers. prob forgot something but yeah super fun cameras to use once you know how to use it you can shoot off perfectly focused/exposed negs like theres no tomorrow

Well, not ENTIRELY impossible...

This is the world’s first 35mm-format telephoto lens with tilt and shift movements. Gaussian optics give high-quality delineation and true background blur. The lens is suited for a variety of subjects, from products to portraits.

Yeah, that's just amazing. Negs the size of your average consumer print FTW!

Well it's a terrible shot then - look, the horizon is crooked, the sky is blown out on the right, and worst, the subject is out of focus (your AF locked on that stray camera in the foreground)!

Ah, but you can't combine all of the movements with that canon lens. Close, but no comparison.

Some guy in the program last year took one of the school's 4x5 camera up to the peak of Seymour Mtn during winter (!!!) and came back with fantastic images. Can you imagine the dedication? Snowshoeing up a snow covered mountain carrying a 4x5 rail camera and the massive tripod required. Oh, and he took some people snowboarding with it. Bonkers.

Yep, but you're still stuck with a tiny 35mm size image.

We got back from 2 weeks in New Zealand on the 23rd and I'm now starting to process through the couple thousand odd shots I took during the trip. Here's a couple to be getting on with......

The Champagne Pool @ the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Park

The Artist's Palate @ the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Park

Pohutukawa Tree on the Coromandel coast

Ya, I took roughly 1100 of the vacation excluding Dec 15th and about 1000 of my fiance's brother and sister-in-law's wedding on the 15th itself. They elected not to hire a photographer, choosing rather to rely on myself and a couple other photography hobbists to shoot the wedding for them.
