Mithrill, great shots, all 3!
My ex is going to NZ in a few weeks.

mithril 12-28-2007 08:56 AM

NZ is an amazing place. As my finace grew up there and her immediate family lives in NZ and Vanuatu we've been there several times to visit. It's well worth the trip, especially since Air NewZealand is now offering direct flights from YVR to Auckland. Our flying times were about 14hrs there and 12.25hrs back. So much better than the old crappy 4.5hrs to LA --- layover --- 12hrs to Fiji ---- layover --- then 4hrs to Auckland route.

What part of NZ is your ex heading too?

Here's a few more:

...... and I hope no one minds the breaking of the "3 per day" rule, but here's the couple that gave us the excuse for our most recent NZ trip.

Some more great photos. What camera are you using?
Im not sure specifically where shes heading, she is going to be backpacking around NZ with her friend. She told me where she is arriving at which airport, I just forget.

ColinK 12-28-2007 09:10 AM

no kidding! Nice photos and colour! I'm assuming a dslr?

mithril 12-28-2007 09:42 AM

All were shot using my D200 w/ 18-200 VR. I did bring my Tokina 28-70 f2.8 with the intention of using it for portraits, but I'd had a bit too much to drink to use it effectively for the reception. That's the good (and bad) thing about informal friends and family shoots... myself and another family friend shot for about 2.5 hours after the ceremony with the bridal party and everyone was drinking through the entire thing: bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, photographers, everyone. Of course the fact that we'd all also been (lightly) drinking for 2 or 3 hours before the ceremony didn't hurt either. The Kiwi's well earn their reputation of loving of their booze ;)

It'll almost definitely be Auckland. While Christchurch and Wellington are also international airports they usually handle only flights inbound from other destinations within Oceania. Tell her to buy a Top10 Holiday Park membership if she hasn't already. Costs about 30NZD and it'll save her a minimum of 10% on every night she stays at one of their parks.

really? you're surprised at that? haha when i was in Europe for 4 months I brought back about 16K photos.
A 2 day vacation to an Island? about 1000 lol.
i snap away!!

Senna4ever 12-29-2007 11:23 AM

Haha...yea...I tend to think in film terms. That's like 60 rolls of film! I'd rather shoot more carefully and take my time to think about a shot instead of the 'spray & pray' method that digital affords us, although I do it too.

yeah definitely... It's always better to think.

16k photos? omg, that must have been some chore shorting through them at the end of the trip.

Definately going to take me a while to learn how to use this thing to take shots as good as the others posted here!

I like the first shot! I would have cloned out or painted all of the big yellow street lights on the left and right in the second though, they are somewhat distracting

bikerx 01-02-2008 09:11 AM

whatcha talking about they're aliens ;) haha thanks !:)

(I know the music image doesn't line up in the middle, but I am not worried about that - they're two separate pages far enough away that it won't be a big deal :p)

^^^ Cool!

kwanzor 01-02-2008 07:51 PM

sorry but i was wondering what kind of len to get 70-300 vr? is that decent for most stuff?

Nice pics BTW everyone

ColinK 01-02-2008 08:44 PM

great job Dottie! It's about time we get to see them :P I love the lighting in the first one :)

77civic1200 01-02-2008 09:27 PM

Maybe its my ADD but I find the background SUPER distracting in these shots. Plus its not straight in all the shots, which is something you really have to watch with a repeating pattern like that, cause it shows up right away.

I much prefer the shots on your flickr, with the white and the beige backgrounds. The Page 11 shot in particular.. I really like all 4 of those shots. Great job.
