Thanks! But believe it or not, the horizon is pretty straight. I think it might be the way the light lights up the picture.

I used another window as a ruler... it's ALMOST straight, but not quite

What a picky asshole!

I'm kidding, but I do have a question as to how you determine the horizon as to be 100% straight.

I know in PS you use the ruler, find something that is supposed to be a straight edge, draw line --> Rotate Canvas --> Arbitrary. But how do you ever know it's truly truly straight? I sometimes have doubts.

Err, the easier way would be to use the grid. CRTL H.

ctrl+H will only work if you have the grid turned on, if it's not, go View>Show>Grid

It's ok, no harm done. I don't mind seeing more then 3 images. Better then making a whole new thread about it anyway.

It can be tricky with shorelines because the shoreline itself isn't usually straight.

That said, there are often other visual cues to go from. Trees are good - they're usually very close to perfectly vertical (especially evergreens). Flagpoles, buildings, things that are constructed level in the first place - use a vertical line instead of horizontal. With still water, you can usually work from a reflection as well. If the horizon is curved because of barrel or pincushion distortion, like you'll get with wider lenses, you can just use the endpoints of it for your ruler.

That is true. In this case, it's both perspective + distortion. So it's lined up alright, just that you've got those two things in play.

Got a new "toy" today... picked up a used, but mint 10-22mm lens... *drool*

Took a quick shot from my patio... No edits done to the pic. I know the sky is blown out, but I don't know how to fix it in photoshop... I'll learn one day...

Went to a dock on Kent Ave but the dock didn't look very nice so I photographed plants instead.

Modified white balance for more analogous colors

Increased blacks for higher color and tonal contrast

High contrast black & white

Hmm..I'll have to try harder, I suppose. A lot of the time I think it's straight, but then when I later look at the picture, I tend to second guess myself.
