C&C PLEASE

http://www.mananetwork.net/pictures/...raphy/Sail.jpg

lowside67 08-07-2006 08:49 PM

alright C&C time.

mana, as a rule i love your work, but this shot i dont think is one of your strongest. it's a little one-dimensional for my taste, i cant find an element of it that "wows" me. if the sailboat is the focus, it seems small and inconsequential, and if not, i dont know what is!

edit - as a sidenote, i like the new frame!

Senna4ever 08-07-2006 09:11 PM

The sailboat is too small within the frame, and it's smack dab in the middle, as is the horizon. Also, the colours of the water and the foliage (a bit too hazy?) in the background are too similar, IMHO.

I think the frame is a bit to wide for the image.

Mananetwork 08-07-2006 09:13 PM

^^ thanks guys.. I wasn't sure what was wrong with the image.. Let me repost another

lowside67 08-07-2006 09:25 PM

I suppose I can't critique and not post to be critiqued :p

Mark, let's see.. The sky is very boring *light blue and very washed out. The crop is fine. I know your aiming for the light house, but it seems kind of blown out and not catching my attention. Try adjusting the sky and do a level gradation outward from the light house

lowside67 08-07-2006 09:40 PM

it's better, but as senna said, for some reason the water and the background are so similar in colour it's really creating a somewhat ugly image since it's so overpoweringly blue. unless the sailboat was much more prominent, i just dont see it working really effectively.

but just my $0.02.

Your right, didn't really pay attention to that.. Adjusted now to more green

lowside67 08-07-2006 09:49 PM

For me at least, I just don't like how mono colour the whole image is - it's not a really pleasant colour. I'm not trying to be obstinate, but so far I just havent seen anything that's changed my mind about that photo.

What's a level gradation?

How about this one?

^^ Very nice!

BTW: I noticed you have a big dirt spec on your CCD.. Clone it out on both images

lowside67 08-07-2006 09:52 PM

Thank you, how do I clean it?

Clone tool in photoshop. Hold down Alt and select a area very close and about the same colour/level as the place you want to clone out. After selecting, release Alt and start brushing the area you want removed

Sorry Mana, I was unclear - I meant how do I clean my camera?

I've never taken the kit lens off so I suspect it's just on the lens itself, but I wouldn't want to scratch it.

Quickest method. Works really well too. Kyle had this lens cleaning solution I tried and worked really really well too. Try the blower first and keep some of the solution on the side
