I just started 3 weeks ago. Nice, relaxing job and I get to meet the top photographers in town with possible assisting gigs.

I really like the colour in the first pic. What did you do in the post-processing? Thx!

Thanks. Just some slight desaturation (& maybe sepia a tad) after bringing up the blue and red.

oh wow ! i never knew the walk way was like that on there! Cool location! I like the second one the best . lines help draw me eyes to the bridge. it would be cool if i could see more of the city though.

Tim Budong 11-09-2008 06:38 AM

the railings are very high, and my tripod dont go too high, if only my tripod can shoot horizontal...
im gonna go back there for sure
it started to rain, so had to leave
some of these were rushed, and was just sorta fooling around

OriginalJC 11-09-2008 08:28 AM

^ nice shots! I like the way you framed the first one :)

This was my 3rd portrait shoot. I found myself nervous, rushed and working too quickly to realize things. I was worried I didn't have something set right and forgot to look for other things like composition and never even noticed he wasn't wearing his hat :(

C&C would be much appreciated!

Hat or not, I really like the composition of the first one.

Second one, the background is a little TOO dark, it looks unnatural... looks a lot like the subjects were photoshopped into the background. Lighting is a little too hard, too, makes some odd shadows in the uniform.

davidhtam 11-11-2008 09:14 PM

nice shots colin. I really like the first one as well

as for the second, i don't think the lighting is too too hard, but the color of his face just look a really off. I'm really bad when it comes to identifying colors (color blindness pwns me) so i'm going to say that it's too.... blue.....? Anyways, the tone of his skin makes him look really sick or something.

i agree... the large towering building, over the moonlit sky with the clouds.. awsome!

keep up the good work!

Tim Budong 11-13-2008 08:36 PM

thanks for the feed back
i ahve a craptacular lens in the 17-85mm...
its horrible in low light conditions as well as the barrel distortion when its full wide at 17mm

the first pic was with an L lens i borrowed..
that made a WORLD of a difference on the same shot/settings with my lens

thanks! im slowly working to improve from the equipment i have until i get my hands on either the 17-55mm 2.8 or 24-70L

still deciding

as for the 3rd one, i think if i put the fstop to a bit higher, the province logo wouldnt "glow" as much
correct me if im wrong

Shot with 50 1.4.
Posted it before but just did a little bit of editing.
How does it look?

Senna4ever 11-13-2008 11:43 PM

^^ You've missed focus on the eyes. I wouldn't rely on AF when shooting portraits. Other wise good...maybe a little underexposed.

Yea, i figured that after i shot it. how about the overall editing? i tried to make him pop out a bit but i noticed i got a lot of imperfections on his face still. and color? underexposed? seems fine on my screen.

any tips on what calibration software to use on imacs? i have the 20" imac 2.4ghz. I used spyder 3 elite today and there was a little bit of improvement but not much. anyone else calibrated their imac screens? or macbook pros?

so question. if AF isn't that good when shooting portraits at such a wide aperture, how can you tell what exactly is in focus when using MF? I sure as heck can't in my viewfinder.

akina1 11-14-2008 12:15 PM

went photoshooting with darthchili. here's a pic i took
