Thank you so much for the compliment Colin! I'd be more than happy to travel up there for a wedding. Wouldn't be the farthest I've travelled.

Not bad! Is it your first time shooting fireworks?

In general I can see that the exposure is just a touch too long. The first picture shows that in the over exposed centre of the explosion. The last one shows that via the streaks that seem to be quite droopy.

It might also help if you can try your hand at using the dodge and burn functions of various photo editing tools to make sure portions of your shots turn out better exposed.

I've shot fireworks only a handful of times, I can see improvements each time. This time I finally managed to grab a cable shutter release,.. my god what a difference that made!

I have a hard time getting those long streaks, without over exposing the centre,... is there a special technique? Or settings?

All the pics were taken at Iso:100, Aperture:F8, on Bulb setting. Prob 3-4s exposure on each pic?

The aperture sounds about right. I end up adjusting shutter speed on the fly during the fireworks, adjusting the speed according to the type of firework going up.

I usually also time them by listening to the music. See if you can find a pattern and rhythm to when the actual firework is released and up to the very moment that it explodes.

Good luck!

Yes, I used a tripod (cheap ones) not that sturdy

Yes, manual focus, but I just set it to infinite... question, I can turn the focus pass the Infinite mark, should it be right on, or all the way over?
