New toys on my dining room table: :p Yes, after hating on canon for the better part of 15 years, I've made the switch. Just got the 5DmkII, 24-70 & 70-200 today. Sadly, the 7D & the 500mm f4L are not mine. :(

Welcome to the dark side :P

That will make for a great setup! :)

Boostslut 12-01-2009 02:05 PM

Nicely done Senna! That setup is going to be wonderful! What made you make the switch to Canon?

LOL that's my exact setup too

Bonjour43MA 12-01-2009 04:01 PM

another one bites the dust..... lol

why the switch? work-related?

btw... the dark side = Nikon. people always seem to confuse that with going to Canon.

Almost all of my shooting partners use goddamn canon, so I decided to go with them. This way, we can share and pick from a large pool of each others' lenses whenever we do a shoot. It also helped that Canon had instant rebates in November, and a better than usual employee discount program from Canon. I would have paid about $1000 more for a Nikon D700, 24-70 & the new 70-200 VRII....so it was a financial decision as much as a business decision, albeit a somewhat reluctant one.

Bonjour43MA 12-01-2009 10:20 PM

^^^ in that case it makes perfect sense for you to switch.

Have you gotten used to how things are all reversed (lens mount, zoom ring, EV compensation scale, etc)? lol

I've been trying to get used to Canon ergonomics for the past year. I still hate it. The 24-70 isn't as sharp as the Nikon or Sony-Zeiss 24-70 lenses though, but it's sufficient (barely) for my purposes. Hopefully, the rumoured 24-70mm f2.8L IS is coming soon.

K-Dub 12-02-2009 09:15 AM

I'll take the 7D, thanks.<3

B

Which one do you prefer? A or B?

skyxx 12-02-2009 02:27 PM

A.

For B, I'm kinda annoyed by that rock sticking out at the bottom left. But, that's just me. :)

ColinK 12-02-2009 03:10 PM

A for me. Simply based on the lighter and nicer colours

davidhtam 12-02-2009 03:13 PM

I like A for the same reasons and colin, but i also like B because the lights are brighter. I would crop out the rocks on the bottom of A though. They're kind of distracting.

davidhtam 12-02-2009 03:18 PM

here are a couple of portraits i did over the weekend. C&C? I just picked up the background :)

is it bad that i have shadows on the ground and kind of a gradient on the background?

Boostslut 12-02-2009 04:04 PM

Great photo's to all the three sets above!

Senna4ever 12-02-2009 05:28 PM

Keitaro: A. It's got a smoother look. I think if you had used a longer shutter speed with maybe a 3 stop filter you could have smoothed out the water even more.

davidhtam: The lighting seems a bit harsh to me. I like the subjects though, but a more diffuse light may have been better, IMHO.

I didn't notice the rock in my viewfinder, it is because of the 95% accuracy of the viewfinder.

I need to invest in some ND and Grad ND filters.

What are peoples perceptions regarding hand holding grad filters?
