WOW. If you'd been able to shoot that with a non-cell phone camera, it would be an absolutely stunning picture. Even as-is still one of the coolest weather phenomena I've ever seen :thumbsup:

Just for fun:

Those images, awesome as they are, ARE NOT HDR! They're more low key than anything.

yes it is :eek5r::Popcorn:gay:

HDR means High Dynamic Range. The dynamic range is most certainly not high. Am I missing something?

that is high dynamic range. The single shot image will be totally different and the shadows will be way dark.

you are probably thinking of something like this when your thinking of HDR:

http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs26/i/20...by_alex12m.jpg

that is just the way of it's extreme tone mapping, and not my cup of tea. It gives a cool effect but does nothing for realism.

if Rcubed's pic had more lights in the scene, it pretty has the same tone map as these Night time HDR's:

HDR mean multiple images captured within a single image. It's used in film and games to simulate dramatic light changes from shadows to highlights.

In photography the artists likes to fit all those images into one still image, while in film/game production a shader drives the HDR image by gradually change exposures on the fly

That last image I would consider as HDR, but not the second.
