1 way to do it is zoom in for the pano. but ofcourse that is location depending and not always doable as you'll have to go back a ways to get what you want and usually something is blocking the view if you do that.

Use a tilt-shift lens. Take 3 shots - one with the lens shifted all the way to the left, one in the normal middle position, and one with the lens shifted all the way to the right. Then stitch the images together. That way you'll get a rectilinear panoramic image with no distortion to correct.

This was taken with the Canon 17mm f4 TS-E, 3 images stitched together.

You can also use specialized panorama heads like Manfrotto's 303SPH.

Works in most situations, but it's not spectrally neutral.

Thanks Jason for the tip, but it doesn't help that I don't have $2k to drop on a lense.... is there a poor mans way of doing it? Even just the basic pan head is what, $400+?? Is there an option of doing it in photoshop to correct distortion? I don't mind cropping some of the pic out.... not to mention I don't have the luxury of going back to Mexico to retake the pictures... hahaha

When you photomerge in Photoshop, try choosing the 'perspective' option.

those were good reads.

So every time you shoot you have to create a new profile? Lighting conditions are never the same?

Also one of the articles mentioned that it's only good for 2 years? How can that be? its stored in a case, and it depends on how much you use it as well.

Was testing my SX110is today on my break at work, to see how good/crazy the zoom was. Even the digital zoom (I know, I know... it's usually useless) was quite decent for a P&S camera.

1. Zoomed out all the way

2. Zoomed in all the way (10x optical zoom)

3. 4x digital zoom on top of the 10x optical (40x!)
