Which lens? :D

Transparency with sig? Very cool idea for thin DOF shots. Love them.

You should have waited a bit longer on that 35mm f1.4....

There seems to be one on the way, and if the mkII is anything like the 24mm f1.4 mkII, it should be sharp as hell. As you've probably found, the current 35mm f1.4 isn't very sharp wide open.

only had it for a day or two now.. it seems fine to me.. definitely not as sharp as the 135L but it does the job..

i would love to see the mk2.. but the prices of these new lenses are crazy...

Senna4ever 05-24-2010 10:25 PM

No, definitely not inexpensive, but cheap compared to Zeiss or Leica. :)

XTC_604_DKNY 05-24-2010 11:00 PM

wow good thing i checked this thread out. I was about to place an order on a 35L this week...
any idea when the new one is supposed to come out??

freesole 05-24-2010 11:05 PM

Haven't heard anything about a new 35L. Anything out there are probably only rumours. Honestly, the 35L is so good that you would find the Mark II to only be a marginal improvement. The 35L is one of the best primes you can get from the Canon lineup at this time. I love mine and find it to be perfectly sharp wide open (unlike the 50L for instance).

There is lots of speculation about the mkII. The Canon reps aren't saying anything, but the 35L is one of the the oldest 'L' lenses in production, and the oldest 35mm f1.4 currently in production, so it's due for a redo, much like the 24mm f1.4 and the TS-E lenses were last year. We think it will be announced along with the 1DsmkIV and 24-70mm f2.8 IS, but then again it's all an educated guess. Don't take this as gospel. :)

The difference between the 24mm f1.4 and the mkII is very noticeable. If you think the Canon 35mm f1.4L is so good, then you haven't used a Sony 35mm f1.4 G (creamier bokeh) or a Leica 35mm f1.4 Summilux ASPH (stunningly sharp wide open to about f16, ok so it costs 2.5 times more). The 35L is not one of the best primes Canon makes anymore - the 24mm f1.4L II, 17mm f4 TS-E, 24mm f3.5 TS-E II & 100mm f2.8 Macro IS are all stunning. I'm not saying the 35L is shit - far from it, but I'm just saying there are other great 35mm f1.4 lenses out there.

Anyways, all I really wanted to say was that if you can wait, maybe an updated 35L will be officially announced soon. If you need one right away, there's nothing wrong with buying the mkI.

LOL creamier bokeh!!! sounds like something from JAV.

fuk 24-70L IS?! time to sell my 2nd 24-70 and get into primes before that thing comes out an I loose money lol.

Hehe 05-25-2010 08:51 AM

The 24-70 is really needing some update. I mean, the 24-70 from both Nikon and Sony are so much sharper than Canon's offering. Even though at a much pricier cost, but I think it's driving many pros away from Canon.

Heck, I know many pro wedding shooters who shoots Canon and they use Tamron 28-75 instead of 24-70 from Canon.

Had an hour of time (before going boating :p) to take some pictures of some free running (or parkour if you will) haha

There were a couple local photographers there as well that ended up going to a few other locations.

This one is great, if it wasn't posted here, I'd think it's a Hugo Boss ads pic or sth.

Yeah Colin, those pictures are fantastic! Great job!

Mananetwork 05-26-2010 12:29 PM
