i don't feel like opening a new thread, so I'll just ask here, anyone know where I can grab a remote cable for the Canon 7D? FS didn't have it.

N.V.M. 01-05-2011 06:35 PM

FutureShop doesn't carry toys like remote cables, flash diffusers, etc. go to any camera store(Broadway Camera,Lens & Shutter)

and, since i'm here(shooting white with the sun behind you is dangerous! lol):

Using an old Nikon 50mm f/2 that my dad has. I am thinking of getting a Nikon 50mm f/1.8, what do you guys think of the lens. (if you own or have used one)

^I just bought one for my GF on christmas, I'm pretty happy with the sharpness

I don't know if it's just the one I bought but the mount felt abnormally tight to twist on and off her D90. For the price I think you'll be happy just make sure the AF works with your body. I feel jealous lately but I'm saving up for the sigma 50mm 1.4 instead of getting the canon 1.8 for myself

Maybe I'll have to take a mini road trip to Ruby Beach, WA.

You won't and can't get crashing waves like that in the Lower Mainland because we don't face the open ocean. Vancouver Island shields us. You will need to go to the west coast of Vancouver Island or the west coast of Washington/Oregon State.

I went to Blackrock Resort in Ucluelet in September and it was awesome. Huge waves crashing onto shore, heavy rain & fog, big ass boulders, etc...

Yea I know my chances are not great. I know the Island blocks us but I just thought maybe there was a steep waterfall somewhere that someone knew of that has a long stream and many large rocks along the way which I could experiment on. But I've always wanted to hit the coast again as I've been to Oregon many times and fell in love with that place. Pacific Coast is where its at. So beautiful.

Looks like I'll take a mini road trip down south.

Thanks!
Mike

^ I left a comment about that. You did an amazing job! It's easier when your a painter, I sucked at making digital matte painting unless I had live footage to copy from.

Can we see what you started with?

J____ 01-06-2011 09:50 PM

sure. I started off with a quick sketch in ps and then converted it into a rough color palette to get a better idea of the color i wanted, decide to paint the sky this time as well. Then i composited from stock images (the Edinburgh castle i took but the rest were from stock sites) adjust the hue + color balance + levels. I then gray layered and repainted the lighting on all the trees at the bottom to match =( paint in the fog and touchups + small details. I'm not a fan of the tree on the right, thinking of taking that layer out. looks kinda fake. The hard part in the whole process was visualizing the lighting. it is 1 thing thinking it and creating it with strobes + adjusting in Photoshop on an image VS. creating it completely from scratch with a digital brush and color palette lol.

Holy shit, is that BC Place?

m3thods 01-09-2011 02:02 AM

^ yeah! it's really starting to take shape now. It will be interesting to see that same view with the new roof on. It'll take time to get used to getting away from the marshmallow that was the old roof :P

Boostslut 01-09-2011 04:38 AM

Wow, that look's pretty awesome! Makes the skyline look pretty impressive! It wasn't much of a looker before, and now its a whole new building!

Here are some more pictures of my work place. I love it! Two totally different views. First one is a panorama of the beach area, and the second is where i was sitting eating lunch on my break snapping a few photo's. What you see out there is the Pier, and then the HMVS Cerberus. This area is called Half Moon Bay in Black Rock, Melbourne Australia.
