The Canon 24-70 is noticeably softer than the Nikon 24-70 for sure. I have 6 of each at work, and all of the Nikons are sharper than the Canons. I think the bokeh is smoother on the Canon lens though, but I haven't really looked....I should do another test.

Isn't Canon coming out with a new version this year though?

test would be cool! i would love to see how the Zeiss version is compared to the 2 Quote:

but nothing official about it yet.

nice pic! | It exceeded all my expectations. It's really fantastic, and a dream to handle.
I recently got a D700, gave the D7000 as a present.
Edit: my favorite is the AF speed. I've never used a lens that focused so fast. Almost felt like a Canon lens! |

This results in soft corners, but only at the wide end. The Canon 24-105mm f4L IS suffers from this at 24mm to about 28mm. Interestingly, the Canon 15-85mm EF-S and the Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR are very well controlled. It just might be due to the older design of the 24-105. Although I've never been a fan of that lens on a professional level, I think it's a good travel lens on a FF body. Quote:

I've noticed that the seasoned pros prefer the Canon 85mm f1.8 over the f1.2L....it's the amateurs and newbies who regard the 85L as a somewhat mythical beast and covet it more.

^ Can't afford dem L lenses
I've only seen that 85mm f1.2, is in this video:
and it definitely looks slow. I'd love to have the Nikkor 85mm f1.4. From all the reviews it seems deadly. However, I just can't justify the deadly price tag.... hopefully one day.

Trying out f2.8 of the Nikon 24-70mm. Jesus. still very sharp. I didn't notice much different between f2.8 and f8 version of the same shot.
