I struggled with deciding on the 24L, 35L or 85L. 85L is just too expensive and if it didn't exist, I would probably be satisfied with the 85 f1.8. Decided on the Rokinon 35 so I got a 24L...and it's brilliant but the 85L is definitely my next lens. Loved it ever since I met someone with one in Japan and...well, that lens is stunning.

Love it. Love that she's holding a bundle of leaves too. Great fall photo.
Maybe a tad overexposed top right? I get what you're going for but maybe dial it back a touch?

My wedding kit right now is the 24-70L II, 35L & 50L, along with the 70-200L IS II and 8-15mm f4L. Attached to 5D3 & 1DX. I end up almost never using the 24-70 though. I've never liked the 85L myself.

Thank you!
This image is actually composed of 12 photos merged to one. The exposure was set on my niece and the sun was peeking out from behind the tree so it's over exposed at the top of the frame. I could fix it up in post, but I decided to leave it as is.

I use the 85L a lot for video!

The L is heavy, and the autofocus search annoys the heck out of me, really slows down a shoot by alot. Aside from being able to show off, the slight quality difference when pixel peeping isn't worth it for me personally. I shot a spread for Harpers Bazaar with the 85 1.8 so i think the quality is good enough

1/3 of a stop really does not make much of a difference.

The Canon 85mm f1.8 is a chromatic aberration monster wide open though. Both Canon 85mm lenses are, actually. The new Nikon 85mm f1.4G & 1.8G kill the Canons in sharpness and lack of CA. Canon needs to update both lenses ASAP.

Also it's such a waste for street photography, huge, heavy, and expensive. I guess it's only really great for wedding photography where you need the speed and to show off a bit with a big ass prime L-lens.
The 35mmL on the other hand, oh my gawd is that thing awesome! I prefer it much over the 50mm if distortion is not an issue for the situation. Love it!
