^ Cut off the top of the bridge, kind of a bummer. Composition looks a little awkward. Here's my take on it. |

Just curious, but for a photo like this one, where would you guys have focused? Sometimes I'm really confused, and I end up getting a soft looking photo. Feels bad when I see some of these amazing shots you guys are taking.
I shot it with a focal length of 35mm on 18-55mm, f/5.3, 1/200. I believe I focused in the middle of photo.

Old ass pic
Some Basic tips is before you take a photo, first actually look at the scene ask yourself what are you seeing that looks beautiful. After you answer that look into the viewfinder and frame it as best as you can.
Take as many pictures of the same scene as you can, and at different exposures so when you go home HOPEFULLY you are satisfied with one of them.

shot this with a kit lens | i would avoid cutting your subject in half and show the whole thing.

The easiest way to avoid extreme distortion is to have your camera perfectly level on your tripod. The fastest and most accurate head to do that with is a geared head. The cheapest one you can get is the Manfrotto 410 Junior.
I post the general set up info on my interior shots if your interested in how it was done.
