I'm new to the B&W conversion game. It's basically my cop out for one of two reasons:
This falls in the prior (CFL with halogen with a TV. T'was a nightmare!) I would, however, like to get better at it. Any critiques? All are welcome (but be gentle :fullofwin:) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5479/1...c7ee40b5_c.jpg |
Some portraits I did for a local band. Damn Fools. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7417/1...33e90f83_k.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5533/1...c3d6592d_k.jpg To answer above, it has to do with contrast, it doesn't mean it has to be sharp but enough to play with the composition. When you convert it into black and white, you can really see the textures of curtains, clothes, facial expressions etc. it really gives depth to the composition. Also, when shooting, think about colors. I found that reds and yellows give the best contrast when it comes to converting it to B&W, also a lower ISO would help alot. When it comes to lighting, I never got into the whole overexposed lighting in the bg but that's just me. I usually like to have a secondary source of light either beside the subject or slightly off in front of them. If you can shoot in RAW, shoot in RAW, it'll really help in post. It'll give you the freedom to play around with the photo compared to jpeg where the limitations slowly creep up on you when you edit. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in and give you a better explanation aha. I do enjoy the photo and captured the moment well. |

http://www.ededition.com/blogpics/ninalarge-1.jpg http://www.ededition.com/blogpics/ninalarge-2.jpg Had about 20 minutes to shoot with Miss America, Nina Davulari on Monday. Disappointed I didn't get more time and pics but...well, any day a beautiful woman poses for your camera is a pretty good day. :D |
