I haven't touched a dSLR in a while since I sold my Nikon D50. My co-worker brought in her Canon EOS Rebel XT with stock 18-55mm lens and this is what I got on my first shot.

#2 on the Banff bench pics... So how does one achieve a vignetting effect? In camera or through editing?

I'm goign to take a guess it was in post effects. He just made a black border around the image and then just blurred it heavily!

bang 11-16-2006 01:11 PM

or you can take a big ass brush and paint outside the borders :)

How cool is JMO's image where you can only see 1 still leg on each person. Neat capture :D

Typically I don't like tilted horizons, but for this photograph I think it works. You lost quite a bit of detail in the shadows on the right though.

Nice photos. I like the balance of exposure with the ground and the sky.

In the first photograph, I would have preferred a higher f-stop or a larger depth of field. To me (IMHO), I feel that the crispness of the pillar where the duck sits on looks semi out of place with the softness of the 2 pillars behind it. I say this because your actual subject being the duck is so small relative to the rest of the frame, my attention goes to the entire pier as it is the foreground element and a competing primary subject. As such, it demands much of the attention and seems to me a little awkward that only one pillar is in super sharp focus.

Senna4ever 11-20-2006 06:48 PM

Yup, I know what you mean...I had it on MF, and forgot to focus when I took that shot, but it was the best of the 5 that I took.

Here's one more:

Thanks for the input. The horizon it actually square? if that makes sense is the cross street on the left side but i guess since the shot is at an angle the horizon is logically not striaght in the shot along with the fact its distorted on both ends due to the 10mm. As for the shadows on the right i decided to leave them out becuase it seemed sort of ugly. I took three shots anywho for the S-class,sky, and shadows.
