What's your take on the 5DS/R now that you have been able to play with one? The reviews seem pretty mixed, a lot of people seem to assert that if you are going to print 6' wide then you need the pixels but for resizing to the internet, there is basically no improvement in sensor (ie dynamic range) whatsoever over the years old 5D3.

5DSR review from my uncle (pro photog in Taiwan, he got it as a loaner): he wasn't impressed.
You get more pixels but that's about it. DR is not even to the level of A7R as far as he could tell. My uncle feels that it might be tempting to get one for high res. work on budget (he usually shoots with Phase One on IQ* sensors for high res.), but given how accessible 645Z (relatively speaking) has become, he would be hard impressed how much market 5DSR can steal from the pros.
As far as pro-mateur is concerned, he believes it's better to wait until A7RII comes out before making a purchase decision.

Mark | I would say that if you are a landscape/fine art photographer then it can be a game changer. Ultimately, the dynamic range is slightly less that the 5D3, but there is none of that ugly noise in the red channel that you get if you boost the shadows in the 5D2 or 5D3. In that sense, you get more useable dynamic range. The noise is much more uniform (dare I say Nikon-like?), and because the noise to detail ratio is greater, you can apply more noise reduction and still come away with a larger print than you can with the 5D3. The camera is also a little slow in displaying a preview on the rear LCD, and the scrolling is also choppy.
I think if you are a studio shooter where you have infinite control of your lighting, there isn't a better camera on the market for the price. However, if you're a commercial shooter who is being hired for big print campaigns or a fine art photographer, the 14 bit capture of the 5DS may not be enough, and the 16 bit capture of the medium format cameras might be the only choice even with cost factored in.
I do like the camera, but for my wildlife photography, a 7DmkII is the better choice....if I crop the 5DS file by 1.6x, then it is the same size as a 7DmkII file anyways. I do want to take the 5DS on a landscape photography roadtrip though.
My 2014 2.8Ghz Quad core Retina Macbook Pro does work noticeably harder processing the massive 60MB RAW files, and it has slowed down my workflow, especially as I have shot over 5000 images in the past 2 weekends!
I am very eager to try out the new Sony A7RmkII, as I am pretty sure it will outdo the 5DS regarding image quality....hopefully they won't be retards and stay with the asinine 11bit compressed RAW file format.
One highly personal opinion that may or may not have merit is that I feel the Sony colours are not as 'real' or 'good' as the Canon/Nikon DSLR's, and certainly not as good as the Fuji X-T1.

Although my current lens isn't good for astrophotography, Your D610 makes my D5200 look like crap in low light. Now I want to upgrade to FX just to take these shots.
