Which dish are you referring to? The Calamari Spinach Salad?

For Kamei Baru,
What is the capacity of the upstairs party room?
And is there a minimum spend to book it for an evening?

The upstairs can fit up to 45 people or more if you don't mind to squeeze, Dannie Riel had her party upstairs and I think they had closer to 50+ people.
There is no minimum but they will probably need about 2 days advance notice for reservation.
Any other questions you can call them directly at 604-559-8588 as they will be more clear :)

What's the actual name for the "cheese sticks" at Broadway?

Obsideon 01-29-2014 07:26 PM

It's a special "cheese stick" that's found in an order of the "Thunder Yam Fries", you could specifically order the cheese stick on it's own if you want :)

i was there last week and was told that the late night special yam fries does not include the cheese stick, i had to order the regular one at full price. thought it was weird.

haha.. yes.. he's just like celine dion ! hahaha

rageguy 03-24-2014 09:52 AM

Will Ebisu Robson bring back the aburi wagyu beef sushi?

Obsideon 03-25-2014 09:35 PM

I am not Dion, but I am Deon ;)
The Wagyu Kobe beef, we are still considering it. If we do though it won't be at the door crashing price of $4 anymore as we were selling it below cost as a test phase. We need to consider if it's worth selling because spoilage of such a high-end meat would hurt.

Verdasco 03-27-2014 08:56 PM

really disappointed with my last ebisu visit in January. The whole menu felt like a chain restaurant where a dish can be prepared in a certain time and be rushed. As an employee who has worked in a fast paced kitchen environment, the dishes that came out looked medicore in terms of taste / pricing and it felt like I can get "more" in terms of quality in some areas. (Maybe garnishes or more servings). This especially goes for the sashimi plates

Jmac 03-27-2014 09:45 PM

If the Canucks make the playoffs and I maintain my fantasy hockey lead, I'll swing by before the game I get tickets to.

Otherwise, maybe during the summer depending if I get any time off from my new job.

Obsideon 03-27-2014 10:24 PM

Verdasco,
Thanks for your feedback! Because of the size of the restaurant (over 250+ seating capacity) we have to include some dishes that are more easily to prepare and serve in a timely manner.
However we do have many specialty dishes on the menu as well, what did you order that you felt needed to be "more" ?

Verdasco 03-28-2014 05:32 AM

All I can think right now on top of my head is the tuna tataki, it is odd having an image stuck into your head when you see one bad dish but have 10x as good in one night but customers do not remember the good ones as much as the bad ones.

The image I see when getting served the tuna tataki is super thin slices of tuna on a large piece of leaf with barely any garnish. The item did not represent the thick pieces on the menu and 100% sure it was under garnished. It felt like the dish could be made in under a minute and it felt like it could be "more" in everything.

It has been a few months so I do not remember much but I really love the oyster motoyaki and fish taco. Great flavour for both dishes and the bread definitely worked wonders with the motoyaki.

see.lai 03-29-2014 09:56 AM

Was there last night with a friend. The chicken karage felt like there was barely any meat in it this time. Maybe it's because I had most of the battered up pieces. Usually, they're really big and juicy (srs).

Other than that, I had a great time.. Gotta love those super mugs :D

Obsideon 03-29-2014 10:08 PM

@see.lai: Noted, will remind chef about it so hopefully it won't happen again. Thanks for the constructive criticism as we strive to keep improving and stay consistent!

New menu with new items launching in about 2 weeks!

This is what I like about EBISU and the brand itself, owners like you who look down at the little guys and take notes! reminds me of undercover boss, except you are not undercover :lawl:

i would die for some oyster motoyaki + toasted bread right now :sweetjesus:

Was there on Friday night, great food as usual! We really like the the candies given along with the bill. If you don't mind tell us, where can we buy them?

Obsideon 05-07-2014 09:35 PM

To be honest I don't know where you can get the candies retail, I order them wholesale through GFS (formerly Neptune) and they come in big boxes of 4000 or something.

Hey Boss,

I went to Ebisu for happy hour with my sisters last night, and we felt that the oysters were kinda off =\ They we'rent cold, and they seemed to have a bite to them, unlike before when they were really soft and creamy. My littlest sister and I felt a bit off a few hours later. The second sister has a bit of an iron gut, but yesterday was really a one-off experience :(
