| UBC parking tickets....HELP
so im a ubc student and i have received 2 or 3 parkint tickets from UBC but i never paid them because i didnt think they were that serious (its not like the vancouver city parking tickets). however today i received a letter stating the total number of tickets i have and the total amount. they said that if i dont pay them the total amount, they wont allow me to register in the next term, and they will forward this to a collection agency. I was wondering have anyone experienced this? and will they actually forward this to collection agency? thanks

I don't know about UBC but at SFU if you have more then 3 unpaid tickets they throw a boot on your car, tow you and won't release it until you pay the tickets, tow charge and storage fee.
Isn't there a class action lawsuit about U.B.C. Parking and their practices of ticketing and towing people?

If you have ever registered your car for a parking pass or if UBC has your license plate on record, you will have to pay them or else you can't graduate (this is the first time I've heard about the registration block). Oh yea, UBC will also tow your car if you have three tickets I think, then you will have to pay the tow fee and all your tickets to get your car back. If UBC has no record of you associated with your license plate, you can just go change your plate and you can have a clean record. I can't say that has happened to me but I have heard numerous stories about this. There are probably a few threads on this already anyways. Good luck.

i got a ticket once, and just paid the 35 bucks. I suggest you just pay it, it's not worth the hassel for what, 105bucks?
oh and yes, they do get the collection agency involved.

Ultimately, there is really no way to escape it. Either they won't let you register or they won't let you graduate lol.
Just pay it, and keep an eye out. Apparently some guy is suing UBC cause they are not allowed to enforce parking rules on private property or something. Read that in the paper awhile ago. If he wins then UBC has to refund everyone rofl!

because its private property they can inforce parking rules. I know that at uvic once you get a certain amount of unpayed ticket they tow,and will keep on doing so untill you have payed them, as we charge a min of 75 for the tow plus storge.

UBC Parking faces class-action lawsuit
According to UBC’s parking enforcement policies, not paying your parking tickets can have serious consequences, including vehicle impoundment, fine increases and the retraction of university services. But according to the grounds of Daniel Barbour’s newly approved class-action lawsuit against UBC, these consequences aren’t legally enforceable

Just change your plates every time you get 2 tickets. Some of my buddies used do that every 1-2 terms.
Dunno if that loophole still works. Personally I just paid the tickets, not worth the hassle to save a few bucks. Just don't eat out a few times.

I seriously wonder why there are so many people on RS who are just a bunch of immature idiots..
Here's how we break it down in order to NOT get a parking ticket:
1) READ THE SIGNS
2) ABIDE BY THE WHAT THE SIGN SAYS
3) PAY YOUR STUPID $10 FOR ALL DAY TICKET
If you follow these 3 simple rules we wouldn't have this discussion NOR will you have to worry and pay up more than 6 times your initial cost.
RS is here to help you out, but its not a source for your "lets break the rules and try to get off free!"

RS is here to help you out, but its not a source for your "lets break the rules and try to get off free!" | let me guess a few of your other rules
4/ put your hand out when crossing the street. NEVER ever cross the street when you see the flashing red hand
5/ do not go 1km over the speed limit regardless of what traffic is doing
6/ never question authority, because rules can never be changed
7/ bend over and take whatever you are given, then say it feels good...
okay, perhaps a little dramatic, but my point is this:
everyone cant act like sheep. you have a right to challenge a ticket, you have the right to question the validity. you have a right to question whether the parking rules should be changed. and you have a right to question authority as long as you do it respectfully and use the proper channels (dispute etc)

Uncalled for man.
I guess you want people to always beat the system, cheat, lie and scam your way past everything.
People try that with their taxes. Look what happens to them.
making that post without your extra points would've been just as valid.
How many people post "help" threads cause they tried to beat the system and failed?

How many people post "help" threads cause they tried to beat the system and failed? | i think it has a lot to do with the fact that the general practice involved with handing out parking tickets has been seen as sneaky and they do some harsh things. and theres nothing wrong with trying to get out of a parking ticket. Parking is so damn expensive as it is, as students we already are dealing with ridicilously high tuition. an average semester costs a student 2gs, i think we should have the right to argue a couple of parking tickets. the universities are money hungry bastards, if someone can find a way to "beat the system, cheat, lie and scam your way"... (out of parking) im all for it!

How many people post "help" threads cause they tried to beat the system and failed? | I think people here can handle a little banter without getting their panties in a knot...
but you seem like the sensitive type, getting tied up with the first few points, which could possibly explain why you missed the main point of my post, I understand, so to clarify: i don’t want people to beat the system or cheat. my last line said "you have a right to question authority as long as you do it respectfully and use the proper channels (dispute etc)"
So essentially, if you think something is unfair, or you think that the whole system is flawed, then challenge it, that’s how things change for the better. make sense?

you park, you pay, that's normal, and fair in all sense.
