Chronext also delivers it to Vancouver in person and no payment is needed until you see the watch, verify it has a dealer stamp, and then pay by credit card in person.

Based on being more comfortable with that then ordering somewhere online and hoping it's legit when it shows, I pulled the trigger.

Very pleased but I am super excited about what the new strap will do.

I'll have to check out Chronext for my next watch.

Nomos brand new from the dealers are a tough buy; I've always found that the best value are pre-owned examples from the authorized dealers in the US, which is where I got mine from like-new, and at a fraction of the cost. Please do share pics of your new strap when it arrives!

Checked out the chromext website. Do these come with AD warranty?

Yes - these are not grey watch markets like Jomashop. These are basically being bought retail from ADs around the world (and therefore come with a stamped warranty card from an AD) and then are being resold to us.

My Nomos came with full papers and an original dealer stamp from a dealer in Italy. The warranty is global and is not limited to the first buyer, so this is perfect. Same is true for all the major players.

I would say that it's easy to compare something like a watch to pretty much anything in life, be it food on the table, clothes for yourself or your family, or a roof over your head.

Everyone has their own take and reasons for watch collecting, no matter what the cost is. There are always going to be bargain hunters, vintage collectors, and those who just want something nicer to be able to pass down to their kids, and grand children. And I'm sure each and every collector out there will have their reasons for wanting one, be it to celebrate an achievement or milestone in life, or simply "just because." Peoples unique circumstances often dictate what they can, and cannot purchase, and watches are (more often than not) material goods. Watch collecting has certainly helped me shape my personal and professional growth as it took me on a journey, and taught me not to pre-judge others, and to have an open mind.

Having said all that, life is short, and should be enjoyed. Watches are just a way of doing that.

What about Aqua Terra?
Some colour combo on leather are quite handsome as well.

MSRP for every Omega is on the website. You can figure on a 5-10% discount at least if you buy new. There are no new Omegas at $3,500 incl tax though so you are going to need to move that budget upwards or head to Chrono24 or Craigslist.

Also, those 3 watches could not be more different. The rules for what occasions call for a formal watch or a sports watch are pretty blurry these days, but in general a Speedmaster is not a particularly dressy watch.

It's unlikely (almost impossible) to get either a Speedmaster, Deville, or Constellation with $3500. You might be able to pick up an Aqua Terra, but you have to look hard as they don't pop up very often, and not for $3500 (although they do sometimes.) Throw on a leather strap and you're good to go. Having said that, I wouldn't consider an Aqua Terra a dress watch. It leans more towards a sports watch more than anything.

Anyone know where to get some decent exotic animal straps ? Ostrich, hippo, croc , etc ? Don’t really trust the “100% genuine” crap off amazon as most are made of garbage leather.

This HIGHLY depends on your budget...

There are a few Vietnamese strap makers (small companies / etsy) that apparently use real croc/alligator. However, the part of the croc used is "less desirable" or "more common" (cheaper parts). Those straps are well under $100.

If you're looking for that ONE exotic leather strap for special occasions and don't mind spending more money, there are plenty of options out there, from established brands like Camille fournet and ABP, etc. (These companies provide OEM straps to major luxury brands). These straps can easily be $200-$300 USD.

Or strap makers like Aaron Bespoke AKA Combat Straps. (I find his prices slightly lower than quite a few other strap makers I've looked into), and of course, offer tons of customization.

Also, Ostrich etc are quite a lot cheaper than croc. Ostrich LEG (the ones with scales, not the mole looking ones) looks great. Imo, I highly recommend going that route if you want something more reasonably priced.

With that budget I would do a Tudor Black Bay 36 or 41. That’s what I got with the exact same budget.

Badhobz rolls around with a Patek. I don't think money is an object to him for a leather strap

As mentioned, Aaron Bespoke out of Montreal is well regarded:
https://www.aaronbespoke.com/

I just ordered a custom strap from Terry Shan out of Toronto:
https://www.instagram.com/terrycrafted/

Mine is a custom beaver strap for my Nomos - should be here next week, I'll post some photos. Terry has been phenomenal to work with, excellent communication and beyond a stand up guy.

Looking at the prices from those guys... im gonna stick to ebay or aliexpress . Great looking straps from Aaron though.

Have been considering ones on etsy but it seems to take months as some of the strap makers are in Ukraine.

so i was reading some articles online and it looks like Omega might just cancel their acrylic speedy professional. It makes sense, the base speedy pro is only 5800 bucks. This damn thing is daytona money for pretty much the same thing (minus the 321 movement) and some faux patina. Unless they want to shoot themselves in the foot, it makes sense to remove the regular speedy or greatly increase its price ala Rolex price bump.

i think the days of the 6k speedy are soon to be numbered.

I just received my new custom strap for my Nomos Orient 38mm.

It's a Beaver skin strap with calf lining made out of Toronto by Terry Shan:
https://www.instagram.com/terrycrafted/

He was a great guy to work with and the final product is well made and is exactly the visual pop I was hoping for.

Picked up an interesting piece last week that needed a little work. Didn't need it or really want it but it was too interesting to pass up and will most likely end up in the collection of another RS member. Its a called a Dalil Monte Carlo with a PVD case & bracelet with a Swiss Automatic AS2603 movement made in the 1970's. It was made for Muslims to know which direction to face for their prayers as the center is a functioning compass and has rotating inner bezels for different time zones.

Looking to thin my collection as hobbies have shifted.
Giving fellow RS heads up before I post them on Watchuseek.

-Stowa Antea Klassik 390
-Seiko Presage Cocktail Time
-Seiko Alpinist + matching Strapcode Jubilee style gold/SS bracelet
-Seiko PADI Turtle on bracelet

The Turtle and Cocktail Time are both pretty much like new. Only worn less than handful of times. The other two are mint or close to mint as well.
Pm me if interested.

The Cocktail Time - is this the blue dial one? I may be wrong, but there may have been one or two other variants of it. Nice watch regardless.
