Sorry, meant hold value, not investment. Ideally, it holds a reasonable value to upgrade 10 years down the line. I'd be dailying the watch and desk bombing it. Which is why I lean towards used, I liked stuff already scuffed so I don't feel bad. I currently have a SKX007 that I've been dailying for close to 4 years now. I got it for like $270 new and somehow they're $425 - 700 now? |
Yah my recommendations still stand in terms of holding value within your $3k to $7k price range. I got myself a used Speedy Pro literally the week before COVID lockdowns for mid $3k and I'm sure it's held/increased its value by now. |
Where did you get it used? Seems like the best deals are on Chrono24 but I assume you pay like 20% duties on arrival? In addition, the one's that are $5K CAD and below are no box or heavily used. I wish I picked one up for $3.5k during the covid drop. Any advice on how to test authenticity? Craigslist seems to have 2022 brand new for $7.5 - 8K |

I met the guy downtown and we went to Otto Friedl to get it authenticated. Took about 15 mins and $50 or something, the guy just opened the caseback, looked at the movement, made sure serial #s matched. However if I was spending $10k+ then I think Time & Gold has an authentication service that is more pricey and takes a few weeks. The Speedy Pro is quite hard to fake if you know what to look for (e.g. omega logo inscription on crystal, spacing and balance of the dials and markers, etc.) |
Speedy pro all the way. I bought mine before the 321/3861 caliber price increases If you can find the 1861 caliber speedy, get that. its probably the best bargain. I got mine in 2019 for 5k Canadian flat at the YVR omega duty free. Used right now i think they are still around 5-6k USD... Id call around and see if they have a 1861 new, hidden in the back somewhere. Grab that at a reasonable price (5-6k) and enjoy it for a lifetime. |
Will start looking on Craigslist and authenticate for $60bucks. Just called them to confirm. I was debating if I should look at the 1980's pieces too since it looks vintage. Thoughts on these two? https://www.therealreal.com/products...IaAkDfEALw_wcB https://www.therealreal.com/products...oonwatch-dl840 Are the differences the sapphire crystal backing? I assume the sapphire is sold above MSRP if used is same price as MSRP? |
Those ones are all automatic co axial movements. Aka a modern omega movement. If you want the OG experience, then you gotta get the manual hand winding one. Aka 1861 calbre or 321 The winding action really adds a nice extra “interaction” with the watch. Also the winding clicks are extremely satisfying. Plus the heritage of the watch really shines through the heslite crystal and manual winding. Basically if you want hand winding and a thinner dome with less distortion, get the 1861 with no sapphire sandwich. All sapphire crystal speedys were co axial automatics (I believe) |
I was actually looking at a Speedmaster 38 as backup in case I never get offered an Explorer this year… I like the smaller size much better on my wrist and I don’t even mind that it’s sort of a modernized derivation of the Speedmaster but the coaxial movement makes the case ridiculously thick - it’s like 15mm. Basically ruined the watch. The Omega AD was pretty desperate to sell me something though lol… they keep texting me saying they can get me a good discount, which is like the opposite of the Rolex experience. |
Try Lugaro Jewelers in West Van for an Explorer. Friend of mine just bought one last week. :) |

Oh, are you in GTA? If so, time for a GTA RS Meet. Likewise for me. Trying to plan a trip back to Vancovuer in July. |
the messed up thing about watch collecting is that i almost never wear anything other than my apple watch. You just cant beat the functionality. i only pop on a nice watch during weekends |

Casio pumping out the CasiOak variants. This one however, I think is the exact right amount of gaudy for a watch that isn't really supposed to be gaudy from a manufacturer that makes the pinnacle of gaudy watches lol https://i.redd.it/qounb4r708191.jpg |
woah! cool. i like it. :ahwow: |

And to think I won't be tempted by another G-Shock for awhile, just got this one last month. https://i.postimg.cc/yNmSfd6h/20220602-110906.jpg |

The steel (?) one looks nice, is the entire case metal/steel? Not too heavy? My black CasiOak is my go-to atm as well lol |
I've had the white on white casioak in my recently viewed pages on my browser for months. When it goes on sale below $90 I'm pulling the trigger. Willl offset my black/black casioak well. |

I'm really eyeing the GA-B2100 series coming out anytime now. Adds Bluetooth, Atomic Time and most importantly Tough Solar! |

I was intrigued by the new one with Bluetooth and all the tech, but I just can't get over sacrificing the date dial. |

Im in hamburg and this really is the land of watches. Rolex GMT master can be bought with no previous purchase history, for the price listed. Quite a few submariners and datejusts too. No daytona though, well at least he said not this week. https://i.postimg.cc/Bv3JybD7/IMG-2531.jpg If you really really want a rolex, just come to germany. |
