Westclox watches (& pocket watches) were made in Canada, USA and the UK if i recall. They can be had for under $50 on Ebay
Ebay is a good source these days for watch lot auctions that can be had for a decent price. FB marketplace is another good source for misc watch lots
The watches in that pic were from an elderly collector that had asked me to help fix and sell off his watch junk hoard a few months ago. I met the guy yrs ago while hunting for watches locally at garage sales, swap meets, live auctions, thrift stores, etc. He had bought them for $.50-$20/each for the past 20+yrs.
Since you've mentioned black faced ww2 military watches, I've been looking up WW2 "Dirty Dozen" watches again that I've never been able to come across locally. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/di...litary-watches
so my seagull 1963 china watch broke and i tried to fix it.... i hamfisted everything and its in a million pieces now. if one of you gents wanna have a go at her, please let me know. you can keep it afterwards, it aint doing jack shit all for me right now
wayyy too complicated for my limited patience. I think i might have fucked up the mainspring too... i really dont know if it can be salvaged
yup it was a radium lume dial. Had so many radium lumed dialed watches on my dinning room table at one point that I was actually getting concerned haha
If you do work extensively with those you should consider protecting yourself/your family.
Should also consider getting a used Survey Meter. New ones are at least a grand but used ones can be had for a few hundred, and you can just get them calibrated for another $100 or so.
PM me if you want more details, or to borrow a survey meter if you're concerned.

Buy a new ST19 movement for $120 and drop it in. I assume you've already detached the watch hands and dial? Just swap it over to a new movement and you're good to go.
I don't work on mechanical chrono's because of how easy it is to mess up but could be a simple project for yourself or someone else if its just a movement swap.
Recently picked up this vintage Braun watch with a quartz GMT movement. Just needed a battery and new crystal. A bit of an odd watch but neat nonetheless with quite the following for these vintage ones. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/de...braun-classics
Do people have to waitlist for Datejusts in Canada? Was casually browsing in Mexico and will never buy a Rolex since I can't afford it. The store in Mexico had all their rolex on display and the girl mentioned that if you buy a Datejust and a few other pieces she can probably put us on a waitlist for the GMTs.
There's like 4 to 5 people on FB marketplace with like $500K -1,000K+ in inventory of watches. Are they legit, if so how do they do they get so much inventory that they can sell them for a living?
People wheel and deal watches as a living. Just look at most of those watch YouTube channels and they are mostly jewellers who buy and sell. Even my favourite watch channel that British guy who does closeups of high end watches are just a bunch of resellers.
As for the datejust, I think the bubbles burst right now and the inventory is recovering. A few months ago there was a wait list for most models. Dj included. But now i think only a few choice pieces are on a wait list. Supply is catching up to demand.

Pretty good chance I’d say. They never used to be that highly in demand. I got mine for retail price a few years ago and it wasn’t a big issue. Got the wife’s lady datejust w/ diamonds and white gold for under retail price too. Both from monte Christo jewellers
I started learning a bit more about watches after being in the middle of a conversation about the hobby and feeling woefully uneducated.
I'm not quite ready to sink any serious money into this hobby just yet but figured I should have something beyond my trusty Apple Watch. I ordered a Presage Cocktail Time as a dress watch for now and might consider a Speedmaster down the road. Are the Speedmasters relatively easy to get, and if so, where can I find them?
speedys you can get at retail pretty much all the time. hesalite one is my preference as its truer to the original. but yes, they were 5k before the price increase, now they are 7k
Apparently Speedmasters were $5K all day long prior to Covid boom?
I saw Hesalite ones on FB Marketplace 2022 purchase date for $6.8k. Fake?
$6.8K is not unheard of and regularly pop up for sale but caveat emptor. Do your due diligence, get it authenticated for < $100 and save yourself the heartache of finding out it's a fake.
Omega often raises the price of their watches so it's one of those "Buy Now. Regret Later." type of BS that pull at your heart strings.

Someone on CanWatchCo forums based out of Vancouver is selling what appears to be a well represented example of a Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich, Reference 311.30.42.30.01.006 from 2020 with everything included for $6800.
