Really like the Marathon Navigator. Dig the asymmetrical look and tritium tubes. It appeals to me in a similar way to Luminox but without the "extra"ness. Kind of wish it didn't have the 24 hour index though

It's 41mm but with a huge case, so the small dial will probably wear much smaller (one thing I've noticed during all this browsing is that using only your wrist to determine the right watch size may not be the best way to do it)

Here's the original with my phone, shows the lume glowing better

This is in a dark room but not pitch black (monitor on), and without charging the lume first. Looks very legible in this situation, but not glowing crazy like you see in some pictures.

Edit: Good morning! Charged it with my phone's torch before the sun came up, and it lit up like an xmas tree

How hard is it to get one of these Everose Daytonas? One of the (distant) aunties had one on her wrist and it looked quite tasteful.

Any “premium” Daytonas in precious metal / diamonds are significantly easier to get than the plain ole steel one. They had two tone Daytona in the Vancouver downtown boutique for a while as nobody wanted to spend 30k+. Same with the submariner two tone.

Rose gold daytona should be quite easy to get.

Ditto on that.

It's the SS models that are hard to get. Every other configuration that isn't SS is a lot easier as in just walk in, pay cash, and part ways easy.

I don't disagree it is a lot easier to get an all gold Daytona than a stainless, but note that all the watches in the boutique are demos for the purposes of showing customers and aren't for sale. They've had a 2-tone Daytona there for a long time because it's part of their demo fleet. (I know this because I bought a 2-tone Daytona from the Downtown Boutique and there's still one in the case!)

They had that platinum Daytona, plattona, with mother of pearl dial for a long time too. Precious metal watches don’t exactly command a premium on the resale / grey market either. I saw quite a bit of gold Rolex selling for the same as steel.

Yep, the PM/TT's are much easier to get compared to SS. If you're looking for PM/TT's, they're selling pretty close to MSRP (if not a little lower) on the grey market.

Even though everything they have out is "For Exhibition Only" - I'm sure if you were a big spender, they'll always have some sought after models for you in the back lol

To the person who said the Miyota movement feels like a tank when the rotor is spinning, I see what you mean now

If this was a dress watch or something that would be pretty annoying. Somehow it works on a flieger tool watch though imo. I synchronized it to this clock (had to try out the hacking!). We'll see how accurate it is in a few weeks. So far so good

Did you get the one with the ruby or the polyrubin substitute? You got the biggest case size I think?

Got me looking at the Laco site for like an hour yesterday lol

They sure go up real fast price-wise with options... starts at $1,000usd but I'm up to $1400+ with a few options!

I got one from the "Basic" series which are all under $500 MSRP (and I paid $360 for the black case - uncoated stainless were like $310 on sale). They won't have the nice Swiss movements, and the cases are finished in a more basic brushed way instead of sandblasted. Dials are a bit different too; slightly more modern and basic rather than pure replicas of the 1940's dials. (and Original line don't have branding since, well it's a replica of the originals)

Basics have a more modern crown, instead of replica onion style crown. Also the dial printing is more green (it looks more green in person than it comes across on the website, so if this is an issue keep that in mind!). Original goes up to 45mm, basic 42mm which is what I got. I have a 7.25" wrist or thereabouts and it fits perfect, but I think I could rock the 45 too (wrist shots always make watches look way bigger than they actually look next to your body)

But I'm quite happy with it! Might help to look at them side by side. Original, basic, pro (which is kind of a mix of modern and replica, and totally customizable)

I still look at watches all the damn time, and I am always happy when I see someone posted in this threat. For some reason I am often drawn to German brands (maybe it's in my blood? lol)... But unlike you guys I can't blow my money on them, since I don't have any!

If I were to get a nice chrono, the Hanharts are really catching my eye. With monopush action and the chrono dials set all the way to the edges like the original 1940's

So this is some old and ugly Lacoste watch I have... but I was just posting it because it has a pretty funny story attached to it.

I went to England in 2007 and was visiting family in Manchester, walked into the Trafford Centre (a huge mall) to check that out and while walking around, I was going by the Lacoste store and some clerk said "Excuse me sir, would you like to participate in our putting contest in 5 minutes? There will be some Lacoste prizes like socks for the winner!" so I said... sure thing... running out of socks anyway so why not right?? They had a little putting green mini-golf thing set up there.

So the competition starts with a bunch of people, I am not a particularly good golfer but I guess that day was my day, I end up making it to the finals... and it's a show-down between me and a 10 year old kid. Well, let me tell you, I fucked that kid up 2 putted for the win after he 3 putted the hole... and I was like yay me I just beat a child!!!! They interviewed me and I was like "Canada isn't just good at hockey, we golf too!" and I'm not sure if the kid was crying, but probably he was. Much to my surprise though, the prize pack wasn't just some socks... it was a a pair of socks, a bottle of Lacoste cologne and this watch pictured above.

And yes, I wore this watch so proudly the rest of the trip to remind me of what a winner I am lol... that kid is probably drunk this very moment yelling about how he coulda been something if it weren't for 3 putting that mini-golf hole 16 years ago.

Free watch, great story, sad kid. What more can you ask for. The story behind the watch is often greater than its inherent value.

Thats why I still have an old birks quartz watch around. its from my old girlfriend back in langara days. i met her after purposely taking a women's study course (to meet women of course) and chucking a eraser at the back of her head. Then profusely apologizing and taking her out for a coffee as compensation. I always thought i'd marry that girl but she turned out to be a total whore (not complaining) but i was too young and naive

Man I wish I'd kept the watch my now-wife got me in 1998... I'm sure it didn't get tossed, it just kind of got lost when I got tired of winding it all the time and switched to G-Shocks (the irony!)

It was just a cheap watch but yeah, the sentimental value would have been cool to keep.

... or maybe a bit of both

I actually still wear the Citizen... EcoDrive... it's a bit of a busy face but I kinda like it! And one of the Seiko's is a Kinetic titanium with a blue I really like... I'll post a couple pics later. Not as baller as most of you guys though lol

Seiko Kinetic is a really neat technology, and so late 90's.... Automatically charge your quartz with a rotor! I think it used capacitors? Totally pointless, but neat, and I wanted one so bad back then.

Likely pulling trigger on a BB58 41mm Heritage, friend can get me a discount at $4K vs $4,850 MSRP + Tax.

Anything I should do to test authenticity anyways?

Maybe contact Longines?

https://www.longines.com/en-ca/certi...f-authenticity

Certificate takes awhile, but could probably give them the serial# for a quick check?
