one thing that is totally under appreciated is how quartz movements are just so damn easy to live with.

I set the time and date on my timex weekender/waterbury and besides the occasional leap day/daylight savings, you almost never need to touch them. just put on and go. The accuracy is amazing too

Yeah it's 50 year old technology compared to 500 year old technology... One is going to be a bit better... But like.. 500 year old technology is kind of the draw isn't it? I love winding my watch every night before bed.

i know what you mean, i just find it refreshing when you dont have to do diddly squat and you can swap between watches at will without winding/adjusting the time.

it just works and thats nice sometimes.

Meanwhile, if I want to wear my G-Shock I have to put it in the sun for a day to make sure it has a full charge so all the features work. And if it's not sunny enough, fuck me.

It's a GW-9200MBJ-1 Riseman from 2009

I actually posted it here at the time! (edit: Here's my post from 1 year after buying it, complaining about the solar LOL). I think it probably just has a really small solar cell or something. It started keeping a really short charge so I changed the battery which helped, but it would always eventually run to low even when it was new, because it's not always exposed to the sun depending on the weather. Indoor lighting isn't enough to keep it charged.

BTW Steel Dive has a sale right now on AliExpress, and if you guys recall even before buying anything, I was really into the Captain Willard watch Seiko 6105... It's like $50 right now, or $65 with sapphire

Changed the battery last year

It had this problem since it was new.. It's just not a great solar watch, that's all. There are probably really good ones out there now.

Speaking of Luminox, always wanted to own one when I first got back into watches over 10years ago. Picked up this sort of vintage one for $10. I knows its old and used but I am not a fan of the quality. I've probably handled 500+ watches in various states and I would rank this particular Luminox on par with a Daniel Wellington in terms of the cheapness of it. I've even seen better quality out of your cheapest swatch that's 20+ years old. Was quite disappointed but also really glad I went with a Tissot PRS chrono back then lol

After a cleaning...

Yeah you gotta go for the metal ones. The plastic ones are so bad... would rather have a Timex or G Shock at the price.

I have a nice metal Luminox, but the tritium is dying due to age lol.

It doesn't look too bad to me after cleaning it.. Not worse than a G-Shock. More expensive than most G-Shocks of course

If they hold up similar to a G-Shock but with a durable quartz analog movement and tritium? I think that's pretty cool.

Fact is, all name brand watches are way overpriced

And it's a moonphase!

Problem is these Moonswatches make rb's Luminox look like a Patek.

Also still has a lame 60 minute chrono timer with 5 minute indices.

Also how long until it turns yellow?

Looks uhhhh…. Kinda cheap. I like how they release it just when they are also releasing a white speedmaster.

Nice buy! Lot of watch for the money and is many times better than a plastic luminox Still can't believe that a "navy seal" watch for that price having only mineral crystal

Yeah the more I looked at the specs, the more impressive it was!

As posted earlier I have been considering one of the Timex chronos.. But $120+ for quartz, mineral crystal, nickel plated brass, it was hard to pull the trigger. But having a "fine" seiko mechanical, stainless steel, AR coated sapphire for like half the price?... It's pretty a pretty easy buy if you've got the itch for a new watch lol

This was one of the watches I was considering when I first started posting in this thread, thinking about buying my first watch. I decided to go with a historic brand's self replica, but having a non branded replica of a historic watch feels fine too now.

Part of what caught my eye is that I just watched The Abyss and the main character had the 80's version of it
