So I dug up my 13 year old G-shock, and replaced the batteries today. i get home and decide to wash it under slightly warmer than room temp water.

(not mine)

i notice the circular donut "armor" around it starts to move.. and cracks... and falls right off, in 3 peices. what the FUCK?!

i guess the god damn fucking rubber dried out and the "glue" holding it on was non existent anymore, warm water probably let it expand faster and since the rubber was dried out it just "peeled" and slowly broke into pieces. sigh. thought this shit is supposed to be TOUGH.

I super glued it together and strapped it onto a table leg beside my bed. i now use it as a beside "clock" lol, since it aint fucking water proof and a piece of shit that will fall apart.

So i proceeded to dig up my 1996 basic first gen indiglo ironman. that shit is still together and working. no "rubber". im gonna stick some batteries it in tomorrow and use it as my super beater watch when i do some extremely retarded stuff. this shit looks so oldschool. all the fucking lettering on the buttons are worn off and it looks like it's been through hell. hahaha

not mine. but looks the same.

REALLY digging the looks of it though...

Or even a brown strap !

Don't know if I should just buy this for everyday use, or invest in a more expensive one (this is sub 100)

I have two Orbita winders that have served me well. From what I've read, Orbita is the most highly recommended watch winder brand.

I still have my 10 year old Timex Iron Man Data link Watch. It's pretty much obsolete now because it used to sync information using my CRT-monitor and I don't have one anymore lol.

Itching for something new. Might just get something cheap to satisfy my craving. Maybe another Nixon or Fossil.

It does look pretty decent. I really have to see it in person before I can justify. I looked up the prices and you can get one for 80 bucks. I just find it a bit of a 'rip' off of other designs. But you're right... for an everyday watch, not bad.

Question: How often do you guys service your watch? I hear you're supposed to do it every 3-5 years at a cost of ~$500 each time?

There is no context to your post/question. Every watch has it's own procedures. You can have a watch that may need to be serviced every year. You could have a watch that needs to be serviced every 5 years.

You could have a watch (specialized diver's watch) that can only be serviced by a handful of companies without ruining it's underwater features or you could have a watch that can be taken to the bay and serviced for $40...
