Well there are a few things, and mostly this applies to 1950 mini case

1) P9000 movement had some qc problems, and you would probably want a warranty. Having owned it, I did not have problems, but it is nice to have full warranty. You don't know how the other guy handled the watch before you.

2) Some of the parts can be swapped with chinese replica parts. Actually almost all of the mini-1950 case watch can be swapped with chinese parts. Really have to know what you are buying if 2nd hand. They can leave the movement, and take literally everything else, and it can be 98% looking accurate. I've been a victim in the past involving Costco sold Panerai...

Typically its very safe to buy 2nd hand, just make sure to have everything (triple boxes, cosc card etc).

I want one too! :D

Not sure, it was a trade with another seiko, that sells between $600-1000 lol.

Looking for a local store to buy the gf a watch, any stores that have a good selection, was looking at stores like TimeCo but they dont offer refund just in case i wanted to return if it didnt suit her, etc.

skyxx 11-24-2011 12:18 PM

What kind of watches are you looking for? Watch IT has some pretty good selections. They have a local store on West 4th and Coquitlam.

What brands are you looking for?

Most places offer refunds or store credit. Go to MC, Lugaro, or even Siba, all of them can give returns.

but the review one had better pictures :)

it uses a valjoux 77 movement 200m resistance /shrug

I wouldnt mind their divers watch either with 20,000ft resistant :D (they should make one that does 20,000 leagues ;))

think this'll be my xmas gift to myself

Looks nice. Not sure of the finish on that watch, but keep in mind a lot of black watches have a PVD finish, which some people find can be scratched easily, especially if you wear as a daily wearer.

flagella 11-24-2011 07:18 PM

Never used to wear any watch before. Given the limited time I had in researching, I ended up just buying this. Took the advantage of Citizen sale right now on jomashop.

Good choice. Eco Drives are a class of it's own..

6793026 11-24-2011 09:08 PM

I have 5 eco drives now and my 1st one seems to be dying on me; not retaining the battery source as good as it is. I love the citzen so i'm happy with all the purchase. the only ones i didn't like are night hawk series because I just can't seem to appreciate it as it's a really busy watch. I would have no idea how to "use" it

^ have you tried them both beforehand?
i like the citizen better than the tissot

PJ 11-26-2011 01:30 PM

Tough choice. I have both a Citizen ecoDrive and a Tissot V8 in my collection.
Hmmmm... Yeah. My vote's going to go to the Tissot.

^agreed with the tough choice

I have both but I prefer my Citizen.

Probably comes down to when you are going to wear it and what look do you want?

PERSONALLY, I think the Tissot you chose has a more sporty "look" with the yellow.
Whereas the Citizen has more of a classic all around feel.

the citizen has a more classic look, has less of an obtrusive crown which won't dig the back of your hand, and just has a cleaner dial than the tissot prc. the yellow accents on the prc are nice though

Would love to know about your experience with Orient watches.

I received my stealth Citizen and Orange Monster over the weekend and I'm already eyeing for another watch :failed:

I am having a hard time choosing between the Seiko Skx007 and the Orient Black Mako. I think I will go for the Black Mako because it's a bit more dressy compared to 007 and more versatile.

The watch place at metro near T&T carries Orient and they have the mako in stock if you want to go see it in person.

as for skx007 I remember seeing it at the watch place beside zellers at oakridge.

moky 11-26-2011 07:50 PM

^do they have the mako xl at that store in metro? i always pass by that store but i never bothered to look once! how was their pricing?

Ibleedswag 11-26-2011 08:39 PM

Not really a watch guy but if i was to get 1, i would love to get a gold plated Rolex watch

Oh thanks for the heads up!
Didn't think anyone local would carry Orient watches.
Now I can go check it out in person before I decide to buy!

Personally, no. I have watches with the same dimensions / weight however.

Thanks, I think I like the Tissot better as well. It comes in a SS band as well, but I think the leather gives the watch a more distinguished look.

I would wear the watch with more business casual attire. I agree that the Tissot is more versatile in the aesthetics department.

From the links posted, it's pretty obvious that I am going with a grey market watch (i.e. no manufacturer's warranty). I know it is always better to purchase from a AD. Do any of you buy watches from sites like Jomashop / creation watches? Do you ship to a PO in the states, or right to your house?

6793026 11-27-2011 07:36 AM

i like the tissot because of the subtle yellow. i'm a huge citizen fan but i have to swing towards tissot this time.

Thanks

I have decided to go with the Tissot!

Now to decide the band...I already have some circular black face chrono watches with black bands (leather / rubber), so I want the SS just for the variety. But the leather looks so damn good...

I remember they did have the xl as well when I went in there awhile back. As for pricing it was double or even more of orient USA.
