The Tudor Pelagos is one fine looking watch.
2000-4000 is quite a big jump from the Sumo!
How much is that Tudor Pelagos?

Oh yes, a big jump. This watch is actually going to be a graduation gift from my parents. I am already feeling guilty about having them spend that much, offering to front half the price of it myself; but my mother insists, so I guess Ill be one lucky kid.
Montecristo said 4200, considering it is exclusive and the fact they have sold out of the black bay already, I am unsure what kind of cash deal can be had. It is pricey for the movement, but if you see it in person, it definitely has rolex quality finishing.
as for the movement be aware it is an ETA and not a Rolex under the hood but the watch does run within COSC specs
I like the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S more and its cheaper but its only 200m unlike the Tudors 500m and has a valjoux 7750 underneath :/ (with in house customization though)
are there any benefits having a watch winder box besides the obvious of having it keep time?
Nope
People have watch winders to keep their not-so-regularly-worn watches in time. That way they when they do decide to wear it, they don't have to readjust the time.

That's it's most BASIC use; however a watch winder also keeps the movement lubricated over time which will keep the watch running accurately for years. You never want to store an automatic watch on it's side or flat for a very long time.

Hm.
When I went with my uncle to buy his Omega Speedy, we asked the salesman about winders.
He said the lubrication thing is just a sales myth. Basically you could leave your watch sitting there for over a year and it wouldn't be "harmed."
I don't know if anyone plans on leaving their watch in the winder for that long anyways... but hey, it's cool to have. And useful if you have more than one automatic.

Sure maybe on a new watch hell they could sit in the jewelry case for that long but I wouldn't take my chances with an older watch. Posted via RS Mobile

couldnt i just take it out periodically and give it a few shakes to get it going?
i guess just to keep it running regularly and lubed

Ehh, I still think the whole lubrication issue is a sales/paranoid myth.
The windings swing around a fixed point.
Seeing as it's water resistant, the case has to be at least somewhat air tight.
I don't see how letting it sit idle can harm it/lose lubrication.
If you wear it at least once a month, you're good.

Just checked my bank acct and everything came to $149 shipped. You could probably even get it for 10-15 bucks cheaper depending on where you get the watch.
I forgot to add that this doesn't include the cost for actually doing the mod itself, I'd attempt it if I had the actual tools to do it but I don't
I'm gonna check around various watchmakers locally and see what I'm looking at price wise, I think 50 or less sounds good.
Also this is definitely going to need a new strap, so add that to total as well. Fun.

Get some cheap tools and do the mods yourself!
lol. You'll learn a lot on the way and definitely will curse some time but it's FUN!
I did a few and they all came out perfect. Well, at least 95% to perfect.
Here are some pictures of a couple that I modded:
