The Seiko museum in Ginza is a trip, I loved visiting there and it's FREE just need to book an appointment time online. Bought the big history book at the gift store too.

Don't go with someone who gets impatient easily with looking at watches and/or historical objects, it will sully your experience.

Hunt for the "next one" begins again... wore my Kollokium a couple times, got a few compliments on it from random people which I doubt happens with almost any Rolex or Omega because of its unusual looks.. but ultimately I didn't like the 38mm dial, prefer a 40mm or bigger and it didn't really work with any outfits for me.

It's on its way to Australia now to a new owner and I'm figuring out what my next fancy will be.

Yeah if you have an average modern male wrist size, those vintage sizes don't always look great. It may freak out redditors to wear something over 36mm, but for some reason they all have skinny, frail wrists. I don't know why that's so common within one small community, but it is. 6.5" seems to be about as big as they get, usually around 6". I always thought my wrists were small at 7.3", but I guess not.

I don't go on forums for watches on purpose, I just assume it will make me upset, but I see the manufacturers at all levels feeling pressure to drop to 38mm as a happy medium.

I have 1 titanium Seiko that's a 38mm and I think it looks alright, it can work in some instances, but for the most part I like 40+ and I don't think I have particularly big wrists. I haven't measure them, but my ProTrek I'm wearing today is a 44mm and I like how it looks aesthetically.

I go to forums and reddit daily to check out watches, but sometimes I make the mistake of reading the comments

Yeah there is a lot of buying pressure coming from a huge burgeoning market in China to push watch sizes down, where they prefer smaller sizes. In response, they have influencers telling Americans and Europeans that this is the "proper" size to wear, because that's how it was all the way through the quartz crisis (and of course the reddit echo chamber takes that and amplifies it to an absurd degree).

You can pretty clearly see the trends changing, but for different reasons than simply "tastes are changing". It's purely for commercial reasons, and the followers follow.

I saw a watch that's out of production from a microbrand yesterday, and I couldn't get the design out of my head the whole rest of the day.

It's way expensive at $20k and almost impossible to find due to comically low production numbers... I don't know what it is about it, the organic and industrial combined is so cool to me.

So a little while back, I saw Laco was releasing one of their pilot watches in a special edition green with grey strap. https://www.laco-watches.com/en/augsburg-aachen-gruen

I'm not the biggest fan of green, but it's my gf's favourite colour and our anniversary is coming up the same day we take possession of our new house, so I wanted to get something to commemorate the moment.

I have to say, of any watch I've bought and kept/sold in the last year, I am the most impressed with Laco's packaging. Beautiful little box and leather presentation zipper case and the watch itself is a hefty weight, feels really solid and finishing is sublime. Little warranty card and papers... not something I expected on a sub $1,000 watch. The packagin received on the Kollokium, for example, was pretty embarrassing in my opinion. I also upgraded to the decorated movement. That said, I can't say I was a fan of the grey strap, so I also asked them to send me a vintage leather strap as well and changed it out immediately.

Improvement? What do you guys think??

I also asked for a modification to the watch, at first I thought they forgot to do it because the edition# is on the bottom where they said the engraving would be... but then I realized they actually put it on the rotor! Somehow that seems very special to me and even though they didn't say that was what would happen, what a great solution in my mind. I had it engraved with the date we met. Subtle and doesn't mean anything to anyone else. And no she doesn't know about it until September so don't go telling her if you run into her ya goofs.

So...I didn't realize up until now, Rolex killed off the Cellini and replaced it with the 1908. Why?

The 1908 is just the first model in the "Perpetual Collection" I'd expect them to reintroduce ones with more complications over the years. A full perpetual calendar would be pretty amazing, but it'll probably just be a moonphase to start

I think the 1908 a pretty nice version of "that type of watch" not that a scrub like me would ever wear a fancy gold watch

I swear I was not searching for a Cellini.

very cool. i have been a huge fan of protek - always been digital so this was a nice surprise (not sure if good or bad) on this pivot.

Bored with most of the new releases coming out save for the totally unaffordable ones, I decided to venture into the realm of vintage watches. Picked up this 1973 King Seiko from a Calgary seller with its original faceted crystal… beautiful watch, hard to believe it’s over 50 years old! Sorry about my dog's hair lol
