Spent 2 weeks there, 5k HKD in cash was enough for me.

HonestTea 04-07-2017 05:15 PM

Honestly, you can bring as much as you want or as little as you want. The good thing about HK is you can just eat cheap places or you can eat at 3 Michelin star restaurants.

Euro7r 04-07-2017 06:06 PM

I estimated based on $500 CDN per week x few weeks. $2K CDN give and take, works out to be $11-12K HKD. Bring a bit extra; hence, $15K HKD. Better to have more than not enough lol haha

Clubbing at LKF was pretty expensive, similar to Las vegas pricing. I had fun at levels doe

Amaru : Great photos! Seems like you had a blast! Surprised you went to the Nam Nian Gardens, even as a local, I only learnt of that place a couple of years ago. It's free and beautiful, and right within the city!

I'll be going in Dec; 2 friends from Thailand and then one chick from Germany. I'm going to be their local tour guide.

Damn, i need to write down places where to eat and chill.
1) bars aside from just LKF
2) LKF
3) Nanping360
4) temple and women street
5) sham shui po + snack soup street food is a given
6) Sai Kung (but not during the weekends)

Any other suggestions?

I like Sai Kung as well. Be sure to splurge for those giant mantis shrimp. You're correct, try to go on a weekday, weekends get busy.

For local food I usually take my overseas friends to Kowloon city for Thai food, and Rice Rolls in Tai Po.

Rent a car and give this bad boy a try! Hong Kong Macau Bridge/Tunnel

see.lai 10-26-2017 10:05 AM

going to Hong Kong in a week, pretty excited.

I have a list of everything I'm gonna do, based off this thread.. but not planned specifically on which day etc.

any tips ? :fullofwin:

Verdasco 10-26-2017 02:00 PM

enjoy hot pot restaurants there. Some places have an area for desserts (ice cream) etc and unlimited drinks included (there are couple of fridges with drinks inside)

the food is just amazing compared to Vancouver. It is different and something you can't find here in the west coast. Had the most amazing mushroom risotto @ the gordon ramsay place in LKF

is it ready yet or already in service?

forgot to ask,

How much do you guys recommend bringing over? I'm your typical foodie/party goer (alcoholic ..?). Don't think I'm gonna spend much on souvenirs or clothing, but I've been told otherwise.
I mean a ferry trip over to Macau is already $30 to and back. Ocean Park is already $70-90.

I was thinking 2000 CAD for Hong Kong and 500 CAD for Taiwan.

Nov 4 is when I arrive. Going to Taiwan 13-17.

Thanks!!

I don't get why travellers always ask this question. Everyone spends differently. Bring your ATM card and pull cash when you need it.

Alternatively getting a no fx credit card is nice too or the Air Canada/CIBC conversion travel card (RFD has threads on this).

That's actually discontinued - for Canada only I think. I looked back in August when I was planning a trip down to Portland.

I think you are looking at a different card, cause this one is still available. And I am still using mine.

I believe if you are an existing customer, you have continued use. However they stopped accepting new applications in April 2017 (some sites say Sept 2017)
