Planning another trip to Hong Kong in June (I've only been once) Is the weather really hot in June? And I didn't really party at all last time I was there but how are the girls at LKF? |

Literally walk out and sweating and sticky. I guess if you wanna lose weight, good place to be haha. Did a lot of outdoor exploring since I like hiking etc. I'm old lol, didn't really check out the party scene, so won't be able to chime in on that. |

LKF is not the place to be nowadays, unless you like rowdy expat guys or tourists. |

start with Kowloon side 1) Shum Shui Po: checking out the market + eating snake soup. 2) Mong Kwok: women street + eat all the street food 1 street behind 3) Walk to Yau Ma Tei (20 minutes): Temple street & eat pissing shrimp, razor clams etc street food. 4) Take the double decker bus (3 dollars HKD) to Tsim Sha Tsui a) Check out the shopping district or go up to Isquare & 37 floor to Eyebar b) Have a drink / or pizza right by the Harbour City at Paper moon. 5) Star Ferry over to Hong Kong side. Hong Kong LKF area has a few good place 1) egg tarts + milk tea (literally 20 second walk from each other) 2) duck + noodle soup. very famous 3) Mid level escalators, soho, lan kwai fong, tons of bars 4) Hanukkah & just chill at LKF 5) enjoy LKF. a) there is no entrance fees to the pubs and bars b) you pay after each drink you order even if you're seating at a table. a) Check out the peak (have a beer) and enjoy the view b) Lantau + Buddha c) Go hiking d) Sai Kung if you have time, go early and enjoy sea food (while you order by the sea). *Go for a boat ride (70 HKD) and see some of the remote islands by boat e) Go to Chang Zhou or Shek O to just chill and relax. f) ride the ding ding and check out the horse race on Wed & Sunday at Happy Valley. Start with that, if you plan your dates right, it'll be a good 4 days for you. |
Going to HK from Nov 5 - 10. First time going and it will be my mom's first time coming back since like 40yrs ago. Will be staying in Sha Tin. Realistically we only have 4 full days. Any recommendations to maximize this trip? So far we got Tian Tan Buddha, Macau for a half a day/full day, maybe Ocean Park. |
I'd skip the buddha unless you're religious Definitely hit up the peak. |

It's a great way to learn about culture and about your moms past I remember when I was in staying in HKG for week just to renew my dads homecoming card, we spend a day walk up to Waterloo mountain area (I'm not sure if it's called that in English) near mk I grew up there when I was a kid (even though I flew a lot), my cousins also grew up there too, it bought back a bit of memories (for both of us) |

She is quite an indecisive person.. can't decide what to see/do. That is why I posted above for suggestions. That and she has mobility issues, can't walk too much.. that is why some places/activities are limited. |
Bumping this up, as I'll be in HK for about 12 days for my brother's wedding in November and I am sure things have changed quite a bit since COVID. Will probably read back on the thread to see what is still relevant. I was in HK for about 5 days a few years ago and so have done a few of the key things already (The Peak hike, exploring the central-mid-levels escalator, macau, and happy valley racetrack). But with so many days I am having a tough time thinking of what else to do. Would be interested in day trips, attractions, or neighbourhoods to wander/explore deeper. And then general restaurant, bar, and lounge recommendations would be great. Thanks! |
For one thing, day trips to Macau and China are off the menu -- those places still have quarantine measures in place. Heck, even HK still has a 3-day "quarantine" of sorts where you can't dine in at restaurants, and there continues to be rapid testing requirements over your first 7 days of visit there. But you probably already know about those, or will be informed of what to do when you arrive. Tourism has been hit hard because Hong Kong has essentially sealed its border off against the rest of the world literally until recently (maybe 2 weeks ago?). Add the ridiculously strict lockdown measures, and the economy is bad enough that lots of stores and restaurants have closed down. If I were you, I would actually look into flying to Taiwan or Singapore for short (multi-day) trips. Taiwan has re-opened its borders, and COVID restrictions for incoming travelers are light. I personally do not like Singapore very much, but it has rescinded its entry measures for COVID. |
I just got back from Hong Kong, things have changed a ton since my last trip there in 2020. Here are the things that may be of interest to you: - Kai Tak Park and West Kowloon Cultural District - The Central district around PMQ is always interesting - great area for drinks or to walk around. It's within walking distance to LKF as well. - A new mall in TST called K11 Musea - it is posh and they regularly have car displays there - MTR system is more connected than before with new lines and extensions If you're looking for a day trip, perhaps you can check out Lamma Island if you haven't been there before. I would also revisit places from your last trip because they could've changed as well. Here are a few restaurants I enjoyed from this trip: - HEXA (Dim Sum) - Louise (French) - PANO (Western) I don't think travel to Macau will be viable for you because quarantine measures are still pretty strict, so double-check the rules for that. |
ah I wasn't aware Macau was still shut down, assumed it would just go by what HK did. I'll be going to Vietnam and then Taiwan after my bro's wedding so I am covered for other countries this trip. Thanks for the reccos, good heads up that things are quite different will have to do some new research. |
