YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was replaced by some retail clothing store. I was so sad that this was was gone. Their drink at the front door with the coconut/mango milk-shake thing was the BOMB.

So.... if you aren't from HK and can't speak canto worth crap, how hard is it to get around? I'm debating on dropping by HK but kind of nervous since I'll be by myself.

Good places to stay, things to do.. clean places to eat? haha

Info would be greatly appreciated~

.Renn.Sport 04-11-2010 11:27 PM

everywhere have english

SkinnyPupp 04-12-2010 07:47 PM

^^^ Not quite

But you can 'get around' fine.

^ no thanks... :squint:

Oh and also,
I guess it's more directed to SkinnyPupp, but i need to set up internet at my place once I get to HK and I've never done that before in HK. Any suggestions for which company to use, rates and how i could go about doing it?
Technically i only need it for 3 months, is it possible to get like a 3 month service and cancel it?

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 06:51 PM

I doubt you can get a 3 month contract, usually it's 12-18 months.

Unless it's specified in the contract itself, you will have to pay each and every month if you cancel before the term is up. I have seen some mobile contracts that allow you to cancel prematurely with a smaller fee, so they are out there. But for internet? I doubt it.

Your best bet is to get a prepaid 3G adapter. Like this one.

It's a USB adapter with 3G, and includes 100MB of data. After that, you can reload it for $2/MB (max $28HKD per day)

Here's another one from another company.

And another.

NimbeeTT 04-14-2010 03:39 PM

^ Damn I looked around and they're all still pretty pricey with really shitty data limits grr. I'll get one but i'll have to limit my use at home.. Is there such thing as "free internet" at the library or at starbucks there? I live really close to the library.
I saw those PCCW signs everywhere i went a few months ago..

Tim Budong 04-15-2010 09:16 AM

If you have access to your own or a relative's HKID, then you can get blackberry working in HK for under 500 for a month!

unlimited data and alot of voice

through smartone vodafone

You could get a Peoples plan, unlimited 2G for $98 a month, no need for a contract. 2G sucks, but it does come with free unlimited WiFi to all Peoples and y5Zone spots which are EVERYWHERE. Or you could go to the library, they all have free Wifi.

I pay about $240 I think for unlimited 3G with tethering, but it required a contract. I don't think you can get a good plan without a contract, with the exception of the Peoples one I mentioned.

I don't think you understood the plans though. When it says max $28 per day/$298 per month, that means that is the max you will pay for that day/month. You can still use as much data as you want within reason.

$298 a month for prepaid 3G is pretty damn good. Most people could just use that instead of getting a plan, but of course everyone wants their "free" phones

.Renn.Sport 04-15-2010 06:28 PM

don't use 3's data network... go with either CSL 21Mb or Netvigator everywhere

Honyoung 05-18-2010 10:32 PM

What airline is everyone taking these days?

HonestTea 05-19-2010 01:10 PM

Cathay Pacific for $14xx taxed in. End of June - mid/end of August

keitaro 05-19-2010 06:29 PM

too bad oasis went belly up. prices were really cheep when oasis was competing against Cathay and Air Canada.

$1400 is considered cheep now? I think thats is what I payed maybe 2 years ago around this time as well.

leilomo 05-19-2010 09:15 PM

i think i got a pretty good deal on my mid july flight on AC to hk. paid 650 round trip, but it flys from Seattle and transfers through vancouver and vice versa on the way back. not sure if the deal is still on but i got it through www.cheapoair.com.

dont sound too legit, but checked with AC and my reservation is in their system :)

HonestTea 05-22-2010 12:30 AM

What age do you have to be to drink and club in HK or China?

And what kind of ID's should I bring when I hit up the clubs? I don't want my CC/DL or passport being jacked in the club lol is there an alternative?

I remember looking at this deal before and it's still in effect for my trip in Oct

Are you going to head back to Seattle on the way back? I think a lot of members said if you skip the last leg of the flight from YVR-SEA then you will get dinged the extra price.

Nice, is there a certain criteria/restrictions? I just went on that site and did a quick search from Seattle -> HKG and cheapest I found was $1447 by Eva Air.
