not sure what kind of alternative there would be for an ID. i would imagine that your DL would be the ideal ID to use, but i've never been ID'd before so i wouldnt know lol. also, correct me if i'm wrong but most places don't bother ID'ing anyway.

HK Citizenship Card or Passport only.
Nobody's gonna jack your passport if you don't whip it out.
Also, nobody's gonna pull that shit if you go party in LKF. most of the people there are international students or Tourists just like you.
Start going to seedy places and it's a whole different thing.
If you're partying in LKF, and you wanna pre-drink.. pre-drink at the 7-11.
Or that bar with the Burgers. The one with all the different Dollar bills from all over the world. i believe the owner is Canadian from Montreal. I remember drunkenly ordering a La Fin du Monde but was given a Canadian for free. Huge downgrade, but the beer and my burger was free.. so I can't complain. I was drunk and I don't remember all the details haha.

The other issue is your checked luggage is likely routed over to Seattle or something along those lines.
Let me know what your answer from Air Canada is cause I've been looking at that deal for awhile (don't fly out till Oct)

NimbeeTT - you should be able to find free local WiFi within the area you're living. from my apartment, I can find "FreeGovWifi" which is free internet to use. Else the library works as already mentioned; which is again "FreeGovWifi". Quote:

Is it better to wait until near the date or pre-buy?
I'm looking to go in December.. I know it's expensive.
What is the range I should be looking at anyways?

hi guys,
friend is looking to rent a hotel, hostel or apartment for 17 nights in hong kong, as close as possible to hong kong university. checking in november 2 and checking out november 19. The problem is, he wants a budget of $80 or so per night - something along those lines.
i looked and there aren't any hostels very close to hku. in addition the hotels in the central district are very pricey during that time.
does anybody have any alternatives or suggestions? would be open to somewhere near a mtr that would be very easy to get to hku area through. Anyone stayed anywhere in a similar place in the area in hong kong island?

Alright guys, I'm just wondering if It's worth it to go to Sai Kung to eat seafood nowadays. I've been reading up on mixed reviews about it. Wonder if it's worth the trip or has the novelty worn off nowadays due to it being a big tourist area.
If I don't go to Sai Kung for "cheap" seafood, what are some of the places I should go that won't seriously break the bank.

Sai kung is not too bad, spend a late afternoon there. Just take a 299 from shatin or connect from Ma on Shan line.

Curios if anyone has ever brought meat through HK customs. Friends of mine who live there have asked me to bring some guanciale and pancetta for them this week. It's listed as illegal to bring in from the hong kong customs website but wonder if anyone else has had any first hand experience.
I guess a better question would be if there is any good places to pick up Italian deli products in hong kong?

I would not bring any meats through any customs. It's not worth the hassle.

you can run through customs, just look straight and don't look at them or just admire their colonial uniforms
tell your friend to do some searching, there is simply nothing that you can't buy in HK with enough money

Every upscale supermarket has a fancy meats deli. Prices are stupid of course, but if you are into things like fancy deli meats you probably make enough money to cover the markup.
