Hondaracer 04-28-2010 04:56 PM

N.V.M. 04-28-2010 06:14 PM

yup, North Van location is the only Perfect Lies remaining, sorta. it's now called Peak Golf(same people working there).

also, there's a new mall about 100 meters behind Peak Golf that's being built and i heard a GolfTown is going in there!

they're fully restocked and although a few deals to be had, they're pretty much business as usual.

Yeap brought my own set, counted as first peice of luggage so it was like $25 or w/e

to be honest Arizona was a decent golf destination and the courses were pretty much as expected, for the price I'd much rather drive to the kootneys though

I'm new to golf and would like to learn - where's a good place locally to get some golf lessons? I live around Kerrisdale so UBC golf course seems appealing.

OR should I pick up a starter (used) set of driver/wood and start hitting some balls at the driving range? What worked best for you guys?

Thanks!

I've worked in the Golf industry off and on for over 10 years now.

It really all depends what you are hoping to get out of golf on what you should do. If you are like myself and others where you really don't like being shitty at something, definitely get lessons right off the hop before swinging at a driving range. Reason being, if you buy some clubs and make a few thousand swings at a range, you are teaching your body poor swing mechanics. Much easier to start off right, then to correct what your muscles will naturally do.

As for clubs, don't listen to people when they tell you that you should get fitted as a beginner. The swing you have will change so much that being fitted for a swing you have now, will probably not be current in three months. I would just recommend buying a set from Costco or Walmart. Even check with courses to see if they have some demo sets for sale.

Most of all, don't work at it like it's a job, have fun with it, and you'll be playing for the rest of your life. If you want some recommendations on sets to look at, let me know. Can easily set you in the right direction.

They didn't look like they were punched recently to be honest. I played free anyway, but the greens look like they took a beating this winter.

N.V.M. 06-23-2010 05:23 PM

i'm going to Calgary for a week next month and am hoping to play a few rounds there. anybody know the best courses to play there? green fees are not an issue. if it's expensive, i don't give a damn.

Hondaracer 06-24-2010 09:00 AM

Don't know Calgary but if your driving stop in inveremere and play eagle ranch and grey wolf, amazing courses

I'm heading up to whistler this weekend, 100% comped at Nicklas north and whistler GC, free meals and open bar all fri/sat :)
