Played in a mens league this week at Silverwing in Calgary. Its an OK course, windy as fuck in the early evening though. Shot a 38; had one triple bogey. Pissed me off, should have shot an easy 1 under.

Im in the market for a new set of irons, anyone want to share there opinion?

Currently using Ben Hogan Apex Plus blade. I was previously a 5-6 handicap, but over the 2 previous years I havent been able to maintain that level and have now become a 10ish. Im looking for some thing relatively new, and a little more "forgiving"

Whatcha guys think?

I recently purchased a set of customized Titleist AP1's and noticed a huge difference in my game.

Right now I'm considering the AP1, Rocketballz, Burner 2.0, Nike Machspeed.

I am a fan right now of the RBZ. Pricey though.

Best thing is spend an afternoon at golf town and hit everything. Then go back two days later and do it again to confirm your decisioin from the first day. Then buy and enjoy.

I play blades myself, hard to play anything but. Haha. The feel, control, playability is hard to pass on. If you want to continue with a forged iron, Mizuno has a ton to offer. The MP-53 is quite forgiving and has a bit of a progressive offset which helps as well as the new JPX-800 Pro set is really nice. I recently tried the R11 irons, I must say, for a GI iron they are very nice! The ball virtually explodes off the face and are a very playable iron. Great control and I gained a full club in distance. It was hard to put them down.

True. Haha. The course is in better shap this year. I played there last year and the tee boxes were thicker than the first cut of rough. Haha.

Nice shot, btw.

Played a round of 9 last night. Had a bad first 4 holes but still managed to get a 39. Finally really starting to get ahold of my driver/5 wood I picked up at the end of last season. Nailed a 315yd drive (30 yards farther than my longest drive with my old R5) right down the middle and i drove the green on a 285yd par 4 with my 5 wood and picked up the eagle. Couldn't beleive it.

Owned a set of those blades + some Hogan BH-5's. Best clubs I've ever owned and regret selling them as these were the last great sets they ever made before Callaway killed them

As for a suggestion, though these clubs aren't new but I suggest you take a look at the Miura CB series. Used, they still go for about $900 on ebay. Rare clubs but anyone seriously into game knows about Miura and how sweet their clubs are. Very forgiving & a buttery soft feel.

Played Seymour today in a tournament. Talk about bad luck with the weather. It was WET! While the rain wasn't super intense, it was constant and didn't let up all day. I will say the course held up very well, which I guess is a nice benefit of playing at a private course.

Anyways, if anyone ever ends up playing in the wet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Footjoy's RainGrip glove. It's this weird material that actually gets stickier the wetter it gets. I had no grip issues at all today, even with soaked hands and grips. Five stars!

A decent set of used name brand clubs, is your best bet. I would try an avoid the brand new $200 set of Ram's or whatever from Sportchek.

Hey guys, any opinions on West wood plateau golf course in Coquitlam?
I've only been to their golf range and too be honest I liked eagle quest more but since I've moved closer to westwood, I'll be going to this one more often.
just want to know if any of you have tried their course?

played it many times. Westwood Plateau is a $100 A+ golf course, unless you're asking about the little executive course they also have.

are you sure you want to make it your "home" course? Carnoustie is cheaper, around $60 prime time.

I play there usually about 2-3 times a year and I find that it's soggy most of the times unless it's late july/august. Regardless of that it's still one of my favorite courses in the lower mainland.

Glad I finally came across this thread! Lol

You guys have any good suggestions for full size courses, in the lower mainland? Particularly ones that don't rape your wallet?

Just like any other sport, I know it's expensive, but there must be some good, cheap-ish courses out there.

The ones I usually play (Carnoustie once, Golden Eagle a couple times, 18 Pastures a few times) My friends and I appreciate courses that aren't jammed with people, we all know how that can suck.

We just want to stop going to the par 3's all the time. Although fun, we need some new full courses to explore
