Any chance anyone plays, or has played with Titleist AP2 712? Looking into some new irons and wondering if there is any first hand experience here. I have been reading reviews online and they seem to have positive ratings across the board. Thanks. |
108 > 99 > 96 > 89 so far this year. I only play every Wednesday with a bunch of guys from work. Trending in the right direction, but still need to keep taking off strokes to get to where I normally am. Gained about 15-20 yards with each club, which has been a blessing and a curse as I've left myself a bunch of half-wedge pitches into the green ... Which I suck at. Consistently driving in the 280-320 range now, which means that bad shots are 20 yards further into the forest. The last round, I started aiming for the 150 yard mark to give myself a full wedge into the green, which meant a lot of weird looks from my playing partners when I'd hit a 6-iron off the tee on a 350 yard hole. Putting is coming around, but my chipping is horrible. I've always done well with my PW, but I can't seem to find the feel this year. Thinking of switching to a lower loft for better consistency. |
Wow.. impressive drives. Hitting a 6 iron ~ 200 yards is nutty. Full wedge 150 yds? Insane. My full wedge is only 115. I'd hit a 4 iron for a 200 yard shot. 7 iron for 150. I drive 230 - 260 on average. Sometimes I pump it 280 or so when the stars align. Longest drive was on a 285 yard par 4 at Furry Creek and I ended up on the back of the green. Only played one full round this year, shot 91. Left at least 6 strokes out there because I've lost my feel around the green when in the rough. Took 3 shots to get on the green from inside 50 yards on one hole.. argh :( |
I've gained a lot of distance over the past few years with the same equipment; basically just increased my clubhead speed mainly through technique, though I am a bit stronger than I was back then. I used to be pretty happy just to clear 250. Of course, it hasn't helped me score any lower, though I'm hoping this is the year that the extra distance finally pays off. |
Got a good deal on some recycled balls from Wal-Mart. $15 for a 20-pack of Bridgestones; 14 x B330s, 3 x e6s, and 3 x e5s. 90% of them are in mint conditions. A couple of them have some minor blemishes and minor discolouration (guessing were in water for a bit). Couldn't justify new given the price difference. |

If you're ever in the US, Target and WalMart have refurb ProV1s and other top tier balls in brown boxes. 12 pack for ~20 bucks. Even better if you head down to Oregon for a Golf Galaxy. I picked up 48 ProV1s for $25. |

B330s are normally $48/dozen new. Quote:
$0.50/ball for Pro V1s is pretty sweet. I've never really played with used balls before. Seem to be mixed reviews online, but I figured it was worth a shot for $0.75/ball used compared to $4/ball new. Worst case, they tide me over until I can score a good deal on new balls. |
i get mine at a local golf shop. they are not reburbished, which means they're not repainted, lol. just recovered lost balls, packaged up. i pick and sort through them, looking for the least amount of felt pen marks. http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/...leistballs.JPG |

Shot an 84 today, continuing to improve. I definitely didn't play to my potential either, so I feel good knowing I could've knocked off a bunch of strokes. Tournament this weekend, feeling good about it. |
My bad. Did math on the cdn prices you mentioned. I'm trending in opposite direction, 97 at Guilford yesterday. 52 front :okay: 3 putted for bogey three times! Argh. |
So we ended up playing best balls with foursomes in the tourney (news to me) and ended up shooting a 67 (par 72) as a group of 4. I drove 2 greens on par 4s (including one that was 6' from the pin, although we were playing off the whites ... So ...) and also knocked out a scorcher that ended up about 125 from the green on a par 5 that I stuck within 10' for an eagle. Unfortunately, we weren't able to score any eagles, but we did birdie all of those holes ... :( Finished 2nd of 6 groups (lost by 1 stroke), but I won the long drive and a KP (unfortunately, the two par 4s that I drove didn't count, haha). Got a bunch of swag. Drank 12 beers, seemed to play better as I got drunker ... |
a few random low rez pics from my tab. 3 different courses: http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/canal/pic1.JPG http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/canal/pic5.JPG http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/canal/pic2.JPG http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/canal/pic3.JPG http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/canal/pic4.JPG |
played Fraserview saturday and sunday. course conditions are about as sweet as it gets. btw, if anybody wants a shot at an eagle , the 12th hole is where you would get one. very reachable even with a half ass tee shot. http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/...raserview2.JPG |

^ Good ball for that price, for sure! Another 97 today.. Only my 4th round of the year, normally would have at least 15-20 in by mid June... pretty windy at Mayfair Lakes.. lost 6 balls so 91 if I stayed dry lol. Couple 3 putts, which never help. Not one GIR either. 0 birdie putts. Not going to score well like that! :okay: |
Was sick this week, so didn't get a chance to get out on the course. Shame as we had great golf weather this week. I played like shit the week before (95), though I did have the excuse of 3 hours of sleep combined with eating breakfast/lunch/dinner at the tee box on hole 1 as I didn't get any of my breaks plus had to work overtime. I probably should've sprung for a cart instead of walking as I was pretty fatigued. Warbirds are fine, depending what you're looking for. Good price at $10/dozen. 97 isn't bad for a 4th outing considering we've had ~9 weeks of decent golf weather. Hard to shoot well if you're not consistently out on the course. |
so damn close to giving up on blades. Sure they feel sweet when struck right but the loss in distance sucks... |
played Fraserview again yesterday, the course was pretty good after Saturday night's rainfall. seems i go there for 1 thing, to try and par #10 and #17 in the same round, both so tough. finished by 10:45 and then the rains came, wow! |
Shot 90 this week. Was practicing for an upcoming best ball tourney, so I was taking a lot of low % shots which resulted in three 8s. I figure if I would've played normally, I probably would've knocked off 3-6 strokes, so I wasn't too disappointed. |
two rounds at Riverway this weekend. greens are immaculate, go play. http://members.shaw.ca/northvanmike/...erwayfixed.JPG |
just a heads up for everyone who play golf in here. DO NOT BUY THE GROUPON FOR TALL TIMBERS at langley.. WORST PLACE EVER. WILL NOT GO AGAIN EVEN IF FREE 1. no fairway and i mean really, the whole course is rough 2. muddy and tire tracks everywhere 3. look more like a ATV field than a golf course 4. ditches everywhere needless to say but the grass sucks too. 5. the green is a joke total joke, dead grass, soil, and even holes. LASTLY! when me and my buddies were playing on the last few holes (17-18). Strippers. yes strippers. 4 golf carts with strippers wow. :failed: we then spotted 2 on a tee box just getting it on with a blanket at the black tee box. EPIC |
^ iono man, that last part would make it seem like golfing there is sooo worth it :lol |
