Hey guys, can someone clarify the rules on penalty strokes and lost balls for me? I'm confused to what number shot I will be hitting.

Scenario.
Hole 1 - Water hazard to the left, deep bush/forest to the right.

1)
If I tee up and the ball goes to the left into the water hazard..
I will have to tee up again and I will be hitting my third shot? (First shot + penalty stroke + dropping ball at green again), this i'm pretty sure is right.

2)Now, what if I hit a ball to the right into the forest and it is lost.
Will I tee up again from the tee box and will I be hitting my third shot? or do I drop the ball where I know it entered the forest, and is that where I'll be hitting my third shot?

3) I hit my ball to the right into the hazard area, BUT I find my ball.
I'm not allowed to hit it out of the hazard right? So I drop my ball in bounds, will I be hitting my third shot as well?

4) What the heck is a provision ball, and how is it any different then the above?

5) Does any of this change if I tee up and drive the ball into the fairway and then with my SECOND shot, I hit it into the water or hit it into the hazards on the right?

1- Usually most of the time water will be red stakes, this will mean that at the line of where you think your ball crossed into the hazard, you will drop a ball within 2 club lengths of that spot. (shot 1 into water, shot 2 drop, shot 3 next shot from beside water within the 2 club lengths)

2- You are correct, if there are no stakes then it's a lost ball and you re-tee for your 3rd shot...if there are red stakes then the same rules apply as point #1 above. If they are white then its out of bounds and re-tee for 3rd shot...even if you find it

3- If you find it and there are no stakes then hit away and good luck...if there are stakes and you find it...you have 2 choices. a) hit it from the hazard but your club can't touch the ground at address...aka same as a bunker shot. b) drop it outside the hazard at the point it crossed the stake line at the cost of 1 penalty stroke (same as point #1)

4 - A provisional ball is used when you are not sure if your first ball will be findable...aka you hit your first ball close to the out of bounds, or into heavy bushes or rough that have no stakes which would lead to a lost ball if you can't find it....so you say you're hitting a provisional and it basically saves you from walking back to your spot to hit again if your ball is lost or out of bounds

5 - Nothing changes from the fairway...only thing is that if on your second shot you do it...you have to drop the ball instead of tee it up

Hope this cleared up some of your questions! Happy ball hunting! haha :fullofwin:

I'm playing on executive courses right now (Sunshine woods, Mylora, Willows9) and I'm wondering what would be the easiest full course we have here? I'll probably start on the women's tees but I want to graduate off executives and start trying the real thing.

Went out on Wednesday, shot a 97, which I was pretty happy with since I hadn't hit the driving range or anything plus I hurt my wrist at work earlier that morning climbing on top of an air handling unit to check a steam valve.

Drove the ball well (distance wasn't great, chalking it up to the wrist injury), hit 11 of 13 fairways, which is ridiculous for me (usually that number is more like 5). My short game was really rusty, which hurt my score pretty bad, but I wasn't too surprised.

Meant to go out this weekend, but bought a new used BMW instead :accepted:

Called Spieth winning.. not like it was a reach considering the way he's been playing but I shoulda bet! 12-1 odds I believe.

Playing Pagoda tomorrow morning.. free golf is best golf!

Playing first round tomorrow at Surrey woot!

Heading down to play Semiahmoo today with brother, found a wicked deal on Golfnow app, 19 bucks each. I love that app

punkwax 04-21-2015 09:26 AM

Wow that's an insane price for that course. I haven't played there in years but it was in fantastic shape when I last did.. let us know how it is!

If my wife didn't have plans this evening I would have asked to join.. I have Nexus and live 10 mins away from the border. :okay:

N.V.M. 04-26-2015 12:03 PM

One of my best rounds of the year this morning. Finally getting comfy with these new irons.I should switch irons more because 6 years of those Burners really set me in my habits.

punkwax 04-26-2015 12:25 PM

Playing Point Roberts tomorrow. Looking forward to trying a new course.

z3german 04-27-2015 10:23 PM

Not hitting the big boy courses yet, but played pitch and putt at QE for the first time ever! What a beautiful game

Played 2 ball golf with 2 randoms I met there, scored +12! Pretty happy with the play especially being the first time, lots to work on!

I have a month before I go to my first golf tournament (got sponsored by my company), I am playing at Morgan Creek. Anyone play here? Any tips, things to work on especially for this course would be awesome! For context, I have been playing 2.5 months.

zonda_s 04-28-2015 04:44 PM

Morgan creek wasn't bad when I played there. It also depends what format the tourney is played in.

As a rookie, just make sure you play your game and don't get pressured by others around you. If you feel more confident laying up, do so. And of course, enjoy yourself!

N.V.M. 05-05-2015 04:36 AM

played two rounds at Riverway on Sunday. played with two others my first round and went through in 3 hours, so i went again! btw, greens are spectacular, course is in great shape.

one annoying thing that did happen though was this plane, buzzing around for over an hour. anybody have any idea what he was doing?

:lol

Uhhh.. Morgan Creek is easily one of the top 3 public courses in the lower mainland.

If it's been dry a while, be prepared for fast greens. Get there early and practice putting to get a feel for them. You'll see what I mean when you get there :)

z3german 05-10-2015 05:56 PM

Retail therapy today, super stoked!

Adicross III $69
Exotics xcg6 3 wood $50
Regripped driver
Regripped putter with super stroke 3.0
Sweet ass pitch and putt bag

Wish I looked at the color combo for my driver grip, looks real weird now but whatever! I suck with the club anyways :toot:

I highly recommend shopping at Peak Golf in both west 4th, and one in North Van. Helpful, knowledgeable guys. Inexpensive, very easy going. Had a much better experience here than the many times I went to golf town. I heard Jack at Peak Golf is one of the best club fitters around, tried to get fit but I hilariously broke the board cause I hit it damn fat FailFish

z3german 05-11-2015 11:51 AM

You guys ever go pitch and putt? What are your thoughts on going after they close? QE closes at 5 officially, you figure its really wrong to just go and play without paying? At 5 there is still like 4 hours of sun now a days, I've tried it once but felt a little guilty haha...

HonestTea 05-12-2015 02:00 AM

Speaking of Pitch and Putts, which is your favorite/best Pitch and Putts in the lower mainland?

QE park!

PeanutButter 05-12-2015 10:05 PM

Oh man, if I had time this month I would jump on this deal.

$137 on weekdays, $167 on weekends.

This is an awesome deal.
Take a look at the spa website, the spa looks unreal and would have been awesome after a round of golf just to relax. Then dinner? super awesome deal.

I really hope one of you can jump on this and report back .

bcuzracecarz 05-24-2015 12:23 PM

^^^ That's such a wicked deal, I'm going to try and do it by the end of the month if I get back in time from work

Played Point Roberts this past week. So disappointing considering it used to be an amazing track, clearly they just have zero money anymore and it shows, only one employee working, looks like they hadn't cut anything that week, greens were spotty and not that great, starting to feel like a tall timbers shit hole. If it was a part of Canada it would be an awesome course still I bet. With the golf now app it's still not that bad if you can find a deal on there but definitely wouldn't pay more than 25 bucks to go there... Even if I am saving on a tank of gas while down there

punkwax 05-24-2015 02:04 PM

Oh shitty... didn't play there a couple weeks ago as I intended to and posted. Ended up playing Semiahmoo. Next up, Loomis Trail.
