i played guildford on sunday, it was ok. $55 for green fees and a power cart (shared). Played pretty bad and shot a 105. First time ever on a par 72 course, and considering i've only been into golf for a few months, i'd say it was ok. I'm pretty confident that if i had played like i usually would, i coulda broke 100.

Ah well. ;)

the_rickster 07-10-2007 10:31 AM

yeah, 105 for your first time on a full course is a good sign of things to come. my buddy has been playing for well over a year consistently at the same course and just broke 100 for the first time yesterday... and with 5 penalty strokes and 2 mullies.

the_rickster 07-13-2007 04:35 PM

my golf buddy is taking off to T.O. for a few weeks... anyone down to take his place in our regular tee-time on monday mornings? $45 including cart share. northlands golf course usually between 6:10-6:38. pm me.

for $300, you wont' find anything reliable/decent.

you might as well spend $150- $300 on a set of mid-high end used club.

a beginner doesn't require reliable or decent clubs. they require something that can provide immediate results and provide response and feel that is needed by a beginner, not shot making clubs with a sweet spot the size of a dime. high end clubs are designed for advanced players. entry level clubs are designed for people interested in playing/learning the game.

a set of adams idea or wilson staff Di6 irons are in that price range and are designed for players who are learning. if you're out looking for the best fucking deal of the century and end up with a set of cleveland cg1s for $300, you're gonna have a nice set of clubs, but despise the game before you get to the bottom of your bucket of range balls.

bigbadpoppa 07-18-2007 11:48 AM

I agree with some of the above points, but some of the high end clubs are just as forgiving as beginner clubs, if not better.

Eg. Callaway x-series or big bertha's. BIG sweet spots, very very forgiving clubs. You'll get more forgiveness off a set of used x-16's then a cheap set of wilsons (i've had both set of clubs and can really feel the difference when i was a beginner in the softer feel with the callways which are known to make forgiving clubs)

..but something high end like some Titleists, well as stated above, the sweet spot is the size of dime, not recommended for beginners at all.

$300 in my opinion is too much to drop on a set of clubs if your a beginner. Once you start getting better, your gonna huck those $300 clubs and upgrade pretty fast. I'd recommend buying a used wilson set for like $100.

So with all these city strikes going on everywhere where are you guys playing now? I know McCleery Fraserview are close. Bby mountain and Riveryway could follow if the workers decide the strike. I also heard Northlands might be closed too because they are operated by N. Van. Kinda sucks now there might be no golf in Vancouver/Burnaby/N. Van.

Hows everyone coping with this AWESOME golf weather? hahaha

N.V.M. 07-23-2007 10:03 AM

i played at Burnaby Mountain yesterday and asked what's going to happen. i was told that the management was taking over so it should remain open.

the_rickster 07-23-2007 10:32 AM

northlands is in a municipal park, but operated by a private company.

N.V.M. 07-23-2007 04:41 PM

NorthLands is closed,i'm watching the news on tv.

bkw 07-24-2007 08:18 AM

oh I read in the paper that Northlands would be kept open, one of the few public facilities in N. Van that will stay open. I hope burnaby doesn't go on strike Riveryway is somewhat close to me (I live near Fraserview) atleast there is some reasonable golf there.

Has anyone played that Kings Links this year? I played it when it was Boundary Shores just wondering what its like now.

edit: anyone free to play golf this week? anytime anyday im looking for a game.

N.V.M. 07-24-2007 08:35 AM

i've played King's Links a couple times this year. awesome links course,BUT so windy both times.

N.V.M. 07-25-2007 06:20 PM

bkw 07-26-2007 09:41 AM

anyone want to try kings links early morning saturday?

i'll try to make a time tonight if there is enough people

sil-300 07-28-2007 06:50 PM

lol im going to play at Mayfair Lakes tomorrow. I hear great things about this course but i dunno if the difficulty of the course is beyond my playing ability..haha o well, ill be the guy embarassing myself hitting all over, if anybody else is going ;)

N.V.M. 07-28-2007 07:09 PM

i'm off to Golden Eagles,Pitt Meadows.

also, there's a website, BCGolfguide that you can keep track of your scores and it'll give you your handicap. you can pay for a Premium version of this service but i just use the freebee version, it does all that i need.

bkw 07-30-2007 07:29 AM

^^ thats pretty awesome man for free. Im a sucker and i paid for one through the bcga. but i get a cool littler card though hahaha.
I did play kingslinks last day though, pretty good i thought i played @ 5pm, $42 w/ tax i finished playing and there was nobody behind us and there was a group in front but they were quick. I highly recommend there for the twilight or 2nd twilight. good course conditions great for practicing a windy type course.

ok haha since we didn't get anyone to play last week.

is anyone free during the week this week? im ok anyday except thursday, anybody wanna play?

ScizzMoney 07-30-2007 11:35 AM

That site is pretty cool, except it shows my handicap at 4.7. Which is false, I am not that good, for some reason it's only calculating my best rounds for my handicap.

N.V.M. 07-30-2007 01:11 PM

it only works properly after several rounds, 20 i think.

obviously if you put only one score and its a damn good one,it won't give your true handicap.

ScizzMoney 07-31-2007 08:08 AM

I'll just keep plugging scores in, I have 8 or 9 up at the moment.

ScizzMoney 08-01-2007 08:34 PM

I just shot my first round under par ever! :) :)
Finished with 2 birdies and 1 bogey, the rest par. At Sun Rivers Golf Resort, in Kamloops.

Gu3s5 08-29-2007 04:09 PM

^ fuker! i wish i can ever come close to shooting EVEN par! lol

edit: n.v.m. wow u play a lot eh? too bad i dont have friends who are always free to play lol. nice 84. my best has been an 85 at bby mountain. 87 at mayfair (which is a hard ass course) and a 87 at fraserview. other then that im always a low to mid 90s player. has anyone tried the falls? HARD ass course. its on a freakin mountain
