Hitting over 300 isn't a problem with the new driver but these irons play really short. Any recommendations for a good set under $700?

I've been playing Nike Vapor Pro blades for the past year and love them. With Nike discontinuing their club like, look into the Nike Vapor Pro Combo, or Vapor fly. I'm sure both will be heavily discounted in the coming months.

Found a very lightly used set of Ping Karsten irons with a rbz fairway wood set for a great price. These clubs are fantastic and hit at least two clubs longer. 150 out with a 9iron isn't a problem anymore. :D

Nike irons are currently 50% off at Golf Town Coquitlam. If only I played more I would've looked more into them more seriously. Alas my lovely set of Hogan Apex forged irons are likely going to accompany me to the grave lol

Picked up a Seemore putter. It's huge!

Went down and played Chambers Bay couple weeks ago, what an amazing course, went down for the US Open to walk it but wow is it different to actually play. So much elevation change and huge sloping fairways and greens. Really cool experience. We played from the very back tees to get the full us open experience haha

I copped the Vapor Pro Combos at golftown couple weeks ago for $460 + tax. I'm pretty happy with my current set of clubs but couldn't pass that up at those prices. I took em out for the first time this week at the range and hit them pretty well. Not used to the shaft weight though since it is the DG Pro S300 (~118g) vs my current Nippon NS 950 GH (~98g). Being flighted/progressive shafts, the difference in height for my short irons and pw/aw are pretty noticeable. The long irons I'm getting much better height though

Also snagged Vapor Fly Pro driver for $180 + tax. I'm liking it a lot more than my current Vapor Speed one but I'm still horrible with the driver. I've finally gotten the hang of things with my irons but my woods and Driver are another story.

Been playing a lot of golf this month and realized I need new grips. I was thinking of also getting my new to me Ping Karsten irons custom fit for my swing. Has anyone had their current clubs done or does someone like GolfTown only do new irons?

zetazeta 12-01-2016 12:22 PM

^ Golftown has a re-grip event every Jan-Feb. Here's the link for last year's Annual Regrip Event 2016 @ Golf Town Online

Can't help you for custom fitting though, never had it done

Golftown can custom fit your existing clubs to your swing no problem. I worked there for 6 years, it's a very simple process. Only problem for you is that Ping's are nearly impossible to bend to different angles because of the metal and process that they are made. You'll still be able to have the length and grip size adjusted but as far as lie angle you will probably be SOL unfortunately.

You can also try Modern Golf out in Richmond.

If you have a set of iron you could go in to get shaft refitted , club gap check, and have your current lie and loft angles checked. You'll be surprised that not every OEM clubs are created equal.

Just bought an air compressor so I can re-grip my own clubs. Snagged a dozen NDMC's for $5 USD each. Gonna give it a shot this weekend, hope it's as easy as the youtube videos make it out to be

bcuzracecarz 01-08-2017 11:18 PM

Gripping clubs is a snap; vice, exacto knife, double sided tape, and soapy solution (if you don't have grip lube solution).

mk1freak 01-09-2017 03:49 PM

Yea it's a snap to hurt yourself if you never done it before as well :okay:

N.V.M. 01-10-2017 04:51 AM

anybody try large lower hand grips? just had them installed (Golf Pride Plus4) and just dying to try them out.

I find the air compressor method much easier and less messy than the tape + lube method. It's also easier to remove if I ever need to do that (which I actually did, since I installed one slightly crooked haha). Takes 5 seconds to put on once the old grip and tape are removed. And for future regripping, cleaning off the old tape is easier without all the tape residue.

I put 2 extra layers of tape under my lower hand for my most recent regrip. Using the standard NDMC. I've only been to the range twice because of the absolutely shitty weather lately, but so far I like it.

I was really expecting to make significant progress in my swing this off season but the cold weather + snow is making it hard. Had to get a token card at Savage Creek since RDR and Mayfair were closed =/

Hazelmere tweeted on the 10th that they had 9 holes open.

My bag is almost all Titleist now. I did get rid of the Scotty though .

bcuzracecarz 01-16-2017 01:42 PM

That's a solid pickup, have always loved the feel of Titleist woods, so traditional sounding too. You hit any others as well? or were you set when you went in

N.V.M. 01-16-2017 06:06 PM

M2 and that strange beast from Wilson. No and no.

punkwax 01-16-2017 07:04 PM

I have to send my Scotty in for adjustment and refinishing. Don't think I'll get rid of it though. Been too good to me :awwyeah:

I've somehow sunk some crazy putts with my Scotty. It's the 3-8'ers that mess with me for some reason. Favourite putt was at Guildford, I think 7th hole, where it's a 3 tiered green and I had to putt from the back down two tiers. First tier went right to left down then second tier was left to right. Saved par because of a duffed 2nd and as happy as I was, some random dude watching from the tee box above cheered louder than I did. I had no idea he was there lol FeelsGoodMan

punkwax 01-21-2017 01:22 PM

Canadian Adam Hadwin in very good position to shoot a 59 or better right now. All he needs to do is par 18. If he birdies he matches Furyk's 58 :high:

punkwax 01-21-2017 01:41 PM

Got the 59. In a par 72 to boot. 4th player ever to do that. Well done Adam!
